going to Disney for Christmas, want to play a nice course while I'm there. Never played in Orlando. I would get a discount on a Disney course, but according to reviews, they're not all that. Grande Pines or Falcons Fire look pretty good, just looking for some advisement

I was there in February and played the Palm and Magnolia courses. We stayed at the Polynesian Resort (directly across the street). Both were nice. Played Lake Buena Vista also and it was a distant third.

Thanks for the reply! There's SO many to choose from. I think I'm going to take a chance on Falcon's Fire, looks awesome on the pics & been on Golfnow.com (lol!) looks like good rates. Very anxious to play down there!!

I recall @David in FL saying on multiple occasions that FF is not so great.

Yep, I'm not a huge fan of FF. Just ok for the money and can get sloppy if there's been any rain. Magnolia at Disney is a pretty good track, better than FF in my opinion and will be in great shape. The other alternative that I'll always recommend is Orange County National. Less than 30 minutes from Disney. 2 courses, always in great shape with spectacular greens and a fantastic facility. Panther Lakes is the top choice of the two courses, but just barely, they're both great. Until the recent change in the PGA Tour qualifying process, they hosted the Q-school finals every other year. http://www.ocngolf.com Welcome to the site, and have fun when you're down here!

Being a high handicapper we always look for the best bang for the buck. We recently found what we think is the best in that category here in the Orlando area.

That is Royal St Cloud.

We have played here a couple times in the last couple months and it is very well maintained for the price.

See I knew you guys would lead me in the right direction! FF looked good on pics & saw SOME good reviews, but, may do Magnolia. Heck we're staying at Disney anyways. Anyone wanna talk me out of Magnolia now lol??

I really liked Celebration for the money when I was there. Close to Disney if I recall.

Magnolia is better. OCN is best. All in my opinion for whatever it's worth.

No. I just played Magnolia this week and it was in good shape. A little wet in some places, but I think that's all of FL this year. Greens were firm and fast.

Sounds great! I'm gonna go ahead & make me a tee time for Magnolia then. It you start around 2:00, can you get 18 in??

That might be pushing it a bit.

No. 4 hours would be a fast round at Disney this time of year, and to be safe, I'd want 5 hours before sunset, which is 5:30 right now. I'd shoot for 12:30 and wouldn't consider anything after 1:00......

Oh great! My tee time is at 1:00 on a SATURDAY lol. Just hope I can finish! How were the greens?? That's what I'm curious about. Thank you for the input.

Like I said, greens were in great shape, firm and fast. Pretty much every green is elevated so they drain well.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
