Thought I would share my experience of today trip to a pro tracer range. So you set up with your own iPhone and away you go... Seems fairly accurate. No idea how it works as there is no visible radar etc? Had a look at averages all my carry and total yardages.... if interested they are (totals) 5-213 yards 6-208 7-192 8-183 9-175 P-162 52 degree-138 Sw- 132 Driver- 285 I obviously soon realised I need a 48 degree wedge! Had a few 315 drives though which was worth the money! Definitely worth doing. Any views on how accurate these things are compared to trackman? RS

It looks like a 3D camera system? If so, I would think it could be more accurate, if the camera resolution is high enough, at tracking ball movement than a Doppler or CWFM (continuous wave frequency modulation) radar.

Sounds intersting - where is that range located? Regarding your wedge situation: agree on your observation (gap wedge) and from my perspective you should consider bending sw (what is it, like 54?) and adding a lw (then at least 59) ... Grave

Couldn't see camera so not sure. On the screen it looks like pro tracer you would see on TV

That's my local range. Great facilities, nice staff, excellent pro's.

I completely ignore the ProTracer distances truth be told as I'd much rather measure out my real distances on course or find them out on a real Trackman/GC2 device. ProTracer for me is about seeing my ball flight and curvature to understand what I changed in a certain swing. Unbelievably it's free to use too!

I would love to go to a Pro Tracer range, but those numbers look very suspicious to me.  You either have some crazy clubhead speed or you are seriously de-lofting your irons.  For example, you would need 130+mph clubhead speed on a PW for it to go 162 yds total at normal loft.  How in the world would you control the distance on shots less than 130 yds unless you are doing a ton of choking down and partial shots.  Also, 6 yds difference between your 52 and your 56 doesn't seem right.  Same with 5i-6i (5yds), 8i-9i (8yds).

I'm with you on the yardages, those are pro type distances, maybe some are even further.

Well I played today on course with a Garmin watch and the distances seem about right. Don't know about club head speed but the ball speed on the trackman for PW was 104 mph? As for the small differences between clubs I'm guessing that's just my inconsistencies

Your numbers seem off.

Looking at those figures it appears I deloft then as the launch angle is lower... Not something I intend to do. Need to do some reading up on that. Thanks

Plus, you get too little spin and too much roll on the scoring clubs.

Your handicap seems to be the part thats off with those numbers  haa.Hitting the ball that far with each club should translate to atleast a 3-5 HCP you would think.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
