I find it hard to believe you carried the 5-wood we've seen more than 210 yards.

Why do you care? Just asking.

a slow mo video with face on view? What is this, help me Peter Kostis?! Look man, I'm not going to bend over backwards to show you something I'm confident with. And you can hold your handicap perspective over me all day, I told you I had a "good" short game, not a great short game. I gave you an explanation of the par 4's that I play consistently from the blue tees, how are you going to tell me that if I'm facing 60-70 yard approach shots on a par 4 370 yd hole that I'm not reaching 300? I'm not going to even respond to this 5 wood bull anymore either, because seriously... why do you care so much? Is it that a 10 handicapper is hitting the ball farther than you? It really seems like that is the reoccurring point you keep trying to make in your posts. This thread wasn't even intended for this pointless banter, and I'm just assuming that you're going to keep beating a dead horse with your responses, and since you don't have video evidence now, you've won this battle! Just take the victory and enjoy your 2 handicap, you earned it.

No, it's just that the 10-capper is lying, in denial or something similar. I just find it hilarious, as I said in my initial post. And I found it funny that you'd think posting a video where you tee up the ball and really go for it would suddenly make your weird 270y claim valid. A slow motion tells a lot more about a swing than a random video from a tough angle. I drive about the same as you or maybe a little less, 300y on a particularly good hit. My 5-wood would be in the 230y range as it would with most that have similar ball speeds to mine - that's why it sounds weird you're not carrying the ball more than Rory and Bubba with the driver - since you're already comfortably doing it with your 5-wood. Edit: and you're right, the point of this thread wasn't pointless banter but to tell everyone you hit your 5-wood 270y. Again, I participated because I find these threads funny.

Hi there, i've got a question regarding club choice. For the past 2 months I've been using a ping G15 5 wood to tee off instead of my ping G20 9.5 loft driver. The reason for this has been accuracy, I can consistently put the 5 wood in fairways, and using this method my last 3 rounds have been 78, 83, and 79, so im seeing lower scores. My question is, should I keep using the 5 wood or learn to hit my driver consistently, (which is very hard for me, but on good hits im seeing 295-300 yd hits). With my 5 wood im seeing around 270 consistently, and I'm always placing the ball right up with the people im playing with who are using their drivers. Should i continue to keep my distance advantage on the backburner, or should I start hitting the big stick and learn to keep it consistent? Would love to get some opinions, thanks!

Based on the turn this thread has apparently taken I'm not sure if we're still talking about the original question but ... I would answer that if you're scoring better with the 5 wood then keep using it ... But definitely keep practicing with that driver. The extra distance gained from the driver over a 5 wood is more than worth it as long as you can keep it in play. Good luck.

Yeah yeah, I get it, you literally find all of this hilarious, quit being a broken record... I really don't even think you read my first post.. I was trying to get advice on club selection, not to stroke my ego! I'm just going to say this, because this is LITERALLY the only thing you want to hear from me, maybe I don't hit the 5wood 270 yards! And don't try to tell me about your hilarity, or try to put any other equation into this, because I know the only thing you wanted to get from me is that I don't hit the 5wood as far as I said I do. I regret posting things like this because of people like you, you want to turn this into some kind of ego battle to fulfill your God complex, give it a rest man, I just gave you your belittlement fix so move on.

I don't think he's explicitly lying just to boost his ego.

IMO, the difference in a 10 HC getting 270 or 240 yards with his 5W is not that big a deal. There is no way that a 10 is expecting to hit a green from 240+ yards away, otherwise he would be a "2.4".

On this site there will always be someone who can hit the same distance with a club as far as you quote, and if it is not consistent with another club they hit it should not be surprising that he suspects the distances you quoted. For our game, getting a 270 versus 240 out of a 5W is not that a big deal.

Sure, I might feel this way because I never use a 5W, but it is important to him as he depends upon knowing his distances very well out to 250 yards. I wouldn't take offense to anything he states, because what he states comes from a different perspective than ours.

His original intent was simply to note that something was not consistent in your quoted distances based upon his own experience.

I might be the wrong person to offer advice being new to the game.  But when I switched to a 13 degree driver I immediately began hitting almost every fairway.  I was lucky to hit 3 or 4 fairways with a 10 degree.  And I didn't lose distance.  I'm able to swing a little harder with the extra loft.  Even mishits land in the fairway or not far off.  Just a little shorter.  The extra loft worked for me.  Driving is no longer a problem.  Its the other clubs. :-O

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
