Sorry for you loss, Big C.

I went to eBay and found several sets of CG7 Black Pearls, but here was the only new set....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cleveland-CG7-Tour-Irons-4-PW-Black-Pearl-Iron-Set-N-S-Pro-950GH-Stiff-Steel-NEW-/400772686699?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item5d4fe9e36b

Thank you for the help! That's a good price for a new set.

That said, there is a silver lining to my story I suppose. Yesterday I went to visit my local golf retailer and tried out a few other models. One of their sales guys gave me a brief fitting and suggested a few irons that I might like. Rather than try to push me towards a new set, he spent several minutes searching the store for used iron sets that would fit my taste.  I was pretty fond of the Mizuno JPX 825's, but I loved the Cleveland 588 forged CB's (I guess I'm a Cleveland guy).

I decided to take the plunge and buy them. Perhaps he felt sympathy for my story, but he offered to have the irons bent 1 degree upright for no charge. And then when he rang me up at the register, he gave me an extra $50 off. I walked away with a new/used set for a price that I'm embarrassed to mention. Now I just have to replace the woods, wedges & putter!

At any rate, here's one consumer that will continue to support brick and mortar golf retailers whenever possible. You simply cannot replace the level of customer service you get with a local golf shop.

Good on you Big C and I am one of those who has always patroned only local golf shops.

The loss of your clubs is certainly a gut kick. I had my work laptop stolen 3 years ago. I lost at least 5 years worth of work on it (shame on me for not backing it) and was slowly able to recover 70-75% of it with help from colleagues and customers. There are still times when I need information from what I lost but have to work around it. Talk about a lingering effect.

I say you shoot 69 with the new set soon and have the last laugh!!

Crap!

Just a thought....It might be worth a couple hours of your time to run by your local Pawn Shops and Play it again Sports stores and keep an eye on Craigs List.  It's not likely that the guy that stole your clubs took them for his own use and I doubt that he's going to spend a lot of time getting them off his hands......

You might just get lucky!

Yes I am watching Craigslist like a hawk. No luck as of yet, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for at least another week or so.

Thanks! Sorry to hear about your computer theft. I agree a "one time" loss of property isn't quite so bad as the loss of information, which takes years to recover.

What is the next step - let's say he sees his clubs in Play It Again?  What kind of recourse would he have?

BTW, @Big C , I sent you a PM.

I can think of 2 options. Call the police and let them deal with it. Or buy 'em.

LOL.  I was just wondering if he could get them back from Play It Again without having to pay if he could somehow prove they were his and were stolen.  I don't imagine PIA keeps very dilligent records on the sellers of used equipment either.

If you see someone else with them, you have to be able to prove they were yours. This is where serial numbers and records come in handy. No S/N, no receipts, there is no proof. And for photo documentation - you should have a polaroid photo, not a digital photo - digital photos can be doctored. Polaroid photos can't.

As always, people who steal stuff from hard-working folks suck..

Police report, then insurance claim.  Maybe the police might be able to tell you the most likely place(s) someone might want to hock your clubs and bag.  Keep you eye on Craigs List, too.  Maybe even local eBay. If yard sales are a regular event in your neck of the woods, might want to stop by a few.

Hope they turn up.  Bags full of clubs that break par are worth searching for.  All the best and good luck.

BTW, @Big C , I sent you a PM.

Well I actually thought about that scenario already. I think what I would do in that case is speak to the store owner/manager and explain the situation. I gave a pretty detailed description of my clubs in the police report (down to the color of the new grips I had installed), so I could provide that as proof that the clubs in question were mine.

Technically, I wouldn't have any recourse to demand that the clubs be given back to me, but hopefully the manager would feel charitable and sell them back to me for the same cost as he or she purchased them for.

The bag that was stolen has my name embroidered on it (it was a gift from my wife), so I would actually have a pretty good laugh if I noticed it in a second hand shop or out on the course somewhere!

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
