Loving the new Callaway Big Bertha Lumber!!!

After doing launch monitor testing of several clubs, I bought a Callaway BB Alpha driver last fall.  I loved the Alpha driver so much that I purchased a BBertha Alpha815 three-wood without testing. I went to Callaway.com to spec the club........point and click purchase.    I've now used it many times and LOVE IT!!!!!

I love my new driver and 3-wood so much, it only makes sense to replace my long in the tooth Callaway Razr Fit 4-hybrid with a Big Bertha!!!

PS...I'd love to be able to go buy this in person and have it now!!  As a lefty, finding the club with the correct shaft flex and length in a lefty can be a challenge!   It's easier to go to the manufacturer website and custom order the club to spec...........point and click purchase.

I adore the Big Bertha 815s. The driver especially looks like Iron Man designed a driver. I'm hoping Callaway Preowned does a BOGO sale on Black Friday again and then... it will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

Day'am strait!

The look at address fits my eye to a T!!   Loving these clubs!!   I'd replace my Razr Fit 5-wood now too, but this same design isn't available in a 5wood!!

I do hit my Razr Fit 5wood pretty well, but I'd dump it in a minute if Callaway made an BB Alpha 815 version of it. At this time, they do not!!  Big mistake........ for now, the RazrFit 5-wood stays.

PS...the funny thing to me is I am acting like a Callaway HOMER!   I bought a Callaway FT-5 driver several years ago that shattered and I made a promise to myself to never buy Callaway again.   LOL...... for several years, I stayed away but now I love their new stuff more than ever before.

My Big Bertha 4-Rescue arrived yesterday, and I absolutely had to play today!!   Wow....  I used this club several times even on a few shots that didn't call for this club and I hit it SOLID.  This will come in very handy!!

DaddyBuck LIKE-EEE!!!!  My standard shot is a draw, but I can also easily hit a high fade with this club too which will come in handy sticking firm greens from long range.

Good to hear I have one on order.  I originally ordered the BB 815 4h but Callaway decided to cancel production of the 815 4h in lefty (only offering 2h and 3h in lefty), so I went with the one you ordered instead.

My 5-iron has become my least favorite club in the bag!!   I never thought I'd see the day a 5-rescue would find it's way into my bag, but that day has come.   I love my Callaway Big Bertha 4-rescue so much, that I've been choking down and manufacturing shots to avoid playing a 5-iron..LOL   It seemed to make sense to quit screwing around and add the matching 5R stick!

Just curious, what are the lofts of your woods, rescues, and 5i?  (I'm in the same boat as you but I have a legit reason for avoiding certain clubs.)

No need to be embarrassed. I love my hybrid club. I sometimes think it might be better to get another :)

Heck, Yang beat out Tiger Woods for the PGA Championship with a great hybrid shot ;)

I fully confess.....I am a complete hacker!!

I hack the ball from tee to green for the most part. All kidding aside, it's all relative.  To Juda Ben-Hur......just because a person is a low single digit HC, doesn't mean he has confidence with every club in the bag.  I keep hole-by-hole stats and some of them are FUGLY!   With that said on long par4s, I can toe-hook a drive out there somewhere in play,  CLANK a mid-iron somewhere up around the green, and then get up/down to save par with some regularity. LOL........ I can chip and putt just a tad bit and make birdies when the opportunities present themselves.  My short iron play is solid....

I just looked up this stat...........I hit 35.8% GIR through 2015 so far.   For a 2-3HC player, this is insanely low.....my norm is usually close to 50% so there is a significant drop-off.  I obviously made a few chips/putts along the way to offset my terrible GIR.  My GIR will definitely improve in 2016...this year was a fluke.

Even pros do it. Certain irons they don't hit as well so they play hybrids or GI irons instead of the ones that come with their set.

Yeah, my 4h is much easier to hit than my 5i. If I were starting from scratch, I'd at least try some 5h.

I have a couple of Callaway (4,5) XR Hybrids with the Fubuki Alpha AX 350 shaft -- and I am surprised with their consistency and ease of use. So I bought a Callaway XR 6 Hy with a Recoil shaft ... don't think the Recoil 460 is as consistent as the Fubuki, but gosh, it is easy.

I teed off late afternoon which is probably close to the same time the package arrived!!  Darned UPS!!  oh well.....This is just an experiment, but I love my Callaway BB 4-rescue sooooooo much, I had to give the matching 5R a try..........damn fine looking club!

The new Big Bertha metal/woods and rescue clubs really fit my eye well at address...... a huge confidence boost!

Somebody asked the loft and I don't think it's relevant question because the shaft plays a large role.  On top of that.......lofts are also adjustable on these hybrids just like the modern drivers!!!

With that said:

The Standard loft on the BB 4Rescue is 22 degrees.......... 5R club is 25 degrees.

I play all my clubs in neutral position.  If I want to hit a draw or fade, I just play the shot.  I don't want the balance of the club to be all ' cock-eyed' to favor one ball flight over another.    Damn that's a fine looking club!!

I'm curious because I'm looking at hybrids and I love Callaway's aesthetics (and prices): why did you go with the BB hybrid over the XR / X2 Hot? The adjustability or did you get a performance edge?

Allright...here it goes:

I like reserving the right to be able to adjust the club specs, even if I don't do it.........

The BBertha rescue clubs are the top of the line which is why they cost more. The BBertha rescue clubs come with the better shaft compared to the XR. This is the primary difference aside from the adjustability.  IMO...............  I know some mixing and matching can be done at the factory if pressed, but that's besides the point.  The XR comes with a super-light high kick-point shaft.  Is this good or bad?  It depends on the user!!  For low HC golfers.....probably not so much.

I'm sure some pro's play the XR's, but I highly doubt their shafts have anything in common to the XR clubs sold to the public.    I believe the BBertha product line has the higher quality components desired by low HC golfers.    For higher HC golfers, maybe the XR is the best club.  I really cannot say to be sure.
