  1. 1. Use the Tee it forward yardages or the ones from the article?

    • Tee it forward, of course!
      13
    • The article analyzes the distances quite well, I'd play 28 times my driver distance
      6

If it's carry, then the formula might work better, but the article does not state carry.

Wouldn't that make it worse?  And by worse, I mean, wouldn't that mean they're recommending even longer tees for everybody if it's based off of carry?

Carry is usually shorter than total distance, so if I carry 240 on average and have a total distance. Of 245 on average carry will give me a shorter course to play.

Are you telling me that your drives don't usually spin back?  Then you're doing something wrong.

Don't know what I was thinking there.

I suppose for carry average to work for me I'd have to spend more time on FlightScope. Even then may or may not be an accurate representation of what is realistic on the course. Controlled environment in front of my instructor basically giving me calming feedback the entire time. I see that as potential not automatic. I have no idea what my carry average is on the course cause that shit is all over the place.

Like a poster on this site who once claimed to back up a 3W 290 yards away for a double eagle? :-D

LOL, I vaguely remember that.  The funny part about my boneheadedness is that what you said was pretty close to what I said with my first post on this thread a few days ago.  I obviously have no short term memory.

I think they both make perfect sense depending on how you calculate your drives. I think 6600-7000 is fun, anything less is short and anything longer becomes a bit tedious. If I used my actual true average, then the "times 28" chart tells me to play 7k courses and if I use my solid drive distance (ignoring the mishits), the TIF chart tells me to play 6700-6900.

It looks right for me. I prefer to play about 5800 yards and drive it about 200 yards. Over 6300 yards and I am not having fun. I like to have the occasional look at a birdie, anyhow.

I studied this matter several years ago and found the factor for the PGA to be closer to 25, not 28.

Judy Rankin said that if there are more than four par-4 holes on which you have to hit a drive and a long iron [or equivalent] to get to the green, those tees are too long for you.

I looked at the scorecard the other day on my home course and was surprised it was actually farther than I expected. The front 9 is 3400 and with a well struck drive on every par 4 I have 3 holes with a wedge and 1 hole with a long iron. 1 par 3 is a long iron and one is a wedge. The back is 3700 and there are 0 par 4s with wedges and 2 par 4s with long irons and both par 3s are long or long mid. I can actually see me playing up to 7400 yards now but my scores on the front would be more similar to the back at about 3 shots higher. I would also improve on my long irons because I rarely hit them because I play the front more often. 28 times my driver is 7500 ish and 36 times my 5 is 68 ish.

    • Day 297: putted for about 25 minutes, working on 30 foot putts. Then went and hit balls for about an hour, just focused on getting the ball to go where I want it. Not my best session, but figured it out better at the end.
    • I do use a 7 wood. Love it! Do have a specific question about 7 woods?
    • @DrizZzY does. 😄
    • does anybody still use a 7 wood? if not what do you use instead>
    • Day (2 May 24) - somehow I missed posting both Tues and Weds practice sessions - so the streak ends and a new one begins…. Focus today was on ball first contact using the Divot Board for reference.   Worked with 7i, 9i and GW hitting hard foam balls.  Started hap hazardly and then settled back into my pre-shot setup.  Much more consistent in the latter.
