How do you check upper body/head not too forward post impact when videoing from down the line?

Lots of ranges in my area are terrible for videoing face on views. Down the line, that's it. So if you sense your head, upper body is too forward post impact, is there a way to check this from the down the line view? It's obvious if you do a big lunge forward, how about if it's a more subtle forward?

It's not really noticeable on my swings. My head tends to move forward about an inch or two and you can't tell at all from the DTL view. Do your ranges have lesson areas? Around here, those booths tend to be wider and you can get a FO shot. I ask the clubhouse if I can use theirs whenever I want to get a FO video.

Some you can video face on so I do have opportunities. But some, there is no recourse. Lesson stall is always busy. Basically it's just too damn crowded. It might be worth it to learn how to better "read" dtl video if possible.

How is that working out for you? Do you need to get a FO video every time, or can you get by without it? Why can't you always go to the range you can take FO video at? I know for myself, I'm working on stuff that's viewed from DTL, so I don't often film FO anymore.

My proprioception, feel ain't real radar... sucks. So I need to see both. As my practicing with camera experience points go up, I'm getting better at better at guessing right what I feel and how it looks, but long way to go. I'll post all my various "finishes" on my swing thread.

Lunge, Upper body forward?                                    Less lunge, better spine extension? Dunno.

It is frustrating.  The ranges that are open in the winter around here (with snow on the ground) have huge barriers between stalls. FO is impossible.  Even the indoor ranges are a struggle.  There is either not enough light or not enough space to put the camera.

I recommend we compress Pennsylvania and New York State so Erie is just across the border between Massachusetts and New Jersey. :-P

Totally agree. The face on video is a huge pet peeve of mine. I don't think there's a wide angle attachment solution. There's just no tech workaround. You also have to use two stalls which is a further restriction.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
