I just want to have a place I can share all of my scores and converse with other college golfers. Basically a place to get advice and opinions but really just to talk golf and be able to see how I've progressed over the years.

Today we had a golf tournament at Crooked Stick in Indiana who hosted the 2012 BMW and will host the 2016 BMW as well. I thought it was a very nice course and despite it being wet the bunkers were probably the best I have ever played out of. Has anyone played or seen this course? What are your thoughts?

We took on Butler, Depauw and Hanover in the Big 4 Classic, as a team we finished second with a 304 right behind Butler at 292. I shot a 40-39, 79 with 5 bogeys and a double so I'm not too mad as I had 7 GIRs and FIRs and 29 putts, but by god I could not make any birdie putts and I had some really good looks. Winner shot 71, and won in a playoff. I finished 13th with a 7 over and that was a surprise but hey I played well. My team counted a 71, 76, 78, 79 with other players shooting an 80 and 82. So I can't complain for it being a 7300 yard long course and getting no roll at all.

This weekend we played in a very competitive field and finished 9th. First day I shot a 45-38, 83 with two triples, a double, 4 bogies and 2 birdies. I hit some terrible shots that left me in bunkers and I had trouble getting out of them for some reason to put me in a tie for 45th. Team shot a 77 and 3 83s for a 326, it was tough.

Today was better.... a lot. My length did not do me any favors as I started on a par 5 and bogeyed it with a three putt, then after hitting a ball about 6 inches from OB on my second hole I flew the green and got up and down for a par. Third hole, par 3, came up short and got up and down, another stupid bogey on the next par 5 and then out of frustration doubled the par 4 from 111 out to start out 6-4-3-6-6, after that my game returned this weekend and parred the remaining 13 lol. Started on 11 and shot 36-40, 76. Finished tied for 32nd with a 83-76 159. Team shot 76,76,77,81 for a 310 which was better but not the best.

Solid weekend though besides about 4 shots, finally finding the groove heading into the conference tournament.

This is division 3. For the best d3 schools low 70s, for us if you shoot no higher than low 80s you'll make the team. We only recruit about 2 guys a year so everyone that goes out for it can play but usually the same 7 or 8 make the trip. The worst schools anyone can play but the better the school the better your scores, it's all about consistency. @nick1998bunker

This is a really interesting thread, and even though I really have nothing to contribute I am enjoying reading it and hope you will continue to update us.

At your level, is your coach your primary instructor or do you still use your original teacher for swing work?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

For my team we have two coaches, a head coach and a volunteer assistant. The head coach knows more short game and putting techniques as well as he is the one who preaches course management and the mental aspect. Our assistant helps us with our swing and helps us on our conditioning. The course we play at has two pros which help us with anything we need if we ask. I do have a really good swing coach who played on the Nationwide tour so I go to him from time to time still as I have been with him for 3 years.

let me know if you ever run into Webster University! Go Gorloks! We have played Hanover and usually go to the Anderson tournament nearby.

We play in the Anderson University tournament every year, I really love the course. Hanover is usually pretty decent and all the guys on the team are good guys.

My first competitive eagle was on #1 at Anderson CC. I think with a 7 iron lol.

it is definitely a short nice starting hole. I think I've had 3 at least that I can remember eagles in competition.

Well yesterday was a shitter. shot a 40-41 for an 81 to tie for 46th out 82. As a team we placed 4th out of 13 at Oak Brook Golf Club in Chicago. Started my day of my literally not making one putt on the practice green and not hitting one solid shot besides my wedges on the range. First hole was a par 5 and almost holed out for eagle but tapped in for par, bogeyed the next par 3 because my tee shot settled right into a hole in the fringe and when i putted it it hopped straight up and went about 5 feet. Parred the next 5 and bogeyed the 8th after hitting my drive over the green LOL. Hole 9 is where it went sour, striped my drive and could not find it in the middle of the fairway so I had to retee, and promptly lost another ball hitting my approach somehow. So that pissed me off and tripled it because I hit the next one to a foot. Back 9 just was shitty and went par-par-bogey-bogey-bogey-par-bogey-bogey-par so that was nice, hit 12 fairways on the day and 8 greens. My wedges were the worst I have ever hit them and I missed probably 4 greens from inside 90 yards. On to conference though I guess.

Have not posted much this year but I've been playing a lot and realized that I need to become consistent off the tee to have a shot at going low next year.

First summer tournament was the Indiana PGA Monticello Open. I shot a 37-39 for a 76, which put me T46. Not great because I played so badly and could not hit a fairway or green. Ended with 4 fairways, 5 greens and 27 putts. Here are the results - http://iga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/iga15/event/iga1541/contest/10/leaderboard.htm - just type Asher in the search for player and you can view my card. Progressing  well this summer and becoming very consistent with my irons. Next tournament is this Sunday so I'll keep you posted! Anyone have any driver drills that work to be able to become consistent off the tee?

This past Sunday I played in the IGA Tournament Series #2 at the Brickyard crossing. Holy shit, nice course, great shape even with the 8 inches of rain the last 6 days but good god, I have never played worse than I played in this tournament. Started bogey-par-EAGLE (chip in from about 15 yards on a par 5)-par to start 1 under thru 4 and then I decided to puss out. Link herer, just search asher - http://iga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/iga15/event/iga1544/contest/1/leaderboard.htm?newcontest=1  Ball striking was absolutely pathetic, usually hit irons well but I seriously cannot remember the last time I hit them this badly. Missed multiple greens from within 150 yards and usually I I hit them at about a 65% clip inside this distance. In total I hit 7 fairways and 4 greens. Do not even want to count putts because it was so bad, at least 3 3-putts. 2 penalties, one off tee, one on approach. All in all, I was decently okay with an 82 because it felt like a 90. On to the next.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
