A random question - I know most of what I have read indicates the "keeping your head down" is a myth blah blah blah

But is it possible at impact or prior to impact to start looking for the ball to early to see where its gone?

I ask as playing the other day I hit straight pushes with every club all the way round and shorter than usual, and my playing partner said "your looking up out of the shot early"

So for the last few holes i focused on not looking up until my arms pulled me up, (not to the extreme of trying to complete a full swing with my head down)

and I started hitting straight draws and much further distances

I've watched alot of pro swings on youtube and their heads dont move until the club is at or sometimes past parallel on the follow through, but from a text/lesson point of view the only stuff i can find is the "debunking the head down myth",.....nothing goes so far as to say at what point the head should come up, and what happens if that occurs early

the head down swing i was doing didnt hurt, or feel stretched, just slightly un-nerving that the ball is off and away without me really seeing where it started!!

anyt thoughts?

David Duval. Annika Sorenstam.

I think that you're mistaking the head (which can and often does serve as a reference point) for other things in the swing. Maybe the thought changed things… maybe it just took you outside of your own head a little by giving you an innocuous thing to think about and believe in (cue up Tin Cup shanking sequence with pocket change, tees behind ears, etc.).

I think the root cause is likely a bit different than "early looking up through the ball." Your swing probably didn't look as different as it felt.

would make sense its something earlier in the swing,

any idea how I work back to figure that out? would rather properly fix the problem than band aid it

Probably. You haven't updated your My Swing thread in over a year.

So this didnt last long haha head down and the pushes returned Went for a lesson and the video just shows me consistantly returning the face open from an in to out or straight down the line position, giving me the push slices or straight slices Quick grip tweak (left thumb moved from the 12 oclock position to the 2 oclock position on the shaft without actually strengthening the grip) Much more square at impact with all clubs and i can actually feel what the face is doing now, hitting either straight or small push draws now Didnt have time to discuss with the instructor the mechanics behind this change, so dont know much about it But its working
