Hello, Im new here and to the game, but picking up well and liking it. Ive got a gift card to a local shop I need to spend and am unsure what to get. Im wanting a new putter, thinking about the White Hot XG #7 or the Nickent Pipe, but I have no golf shoes. So the question: What do golf shoes do and do I need them right now? and: Which should I get?

My putter is ok, its an old ping, about 15 years or so. My Irons are Callaway X 16 3-PW , an Adams 52 deg wedge and I just got a new Callaway Big Bertha 460 (Which I Love). Im going to start getting some lessons soon. I do have a fairway wood but I cant hit with it and want a new one of those too, but waiting on lessons right now.

The cards for $100 and dont want to send more then $30 or so more then that.

So, Shoes or Putter?

Thanks

Just to make sure it's known, I'm no expert on these things. Other than that, I would have to say that the putter. I think focusing on the balance of the stance without the spikes is a good start, and having a putter you believe in makes a lot more difference than something sticking 1/8" or so into the ground or grass.

That is just my opinion, it's what I did, and I think it worked good as far as preventing me from trying to overpower my swing, because when I did I would end up on my butt. It forced me to work on tempo and balance, and I was able to be more confident with the putter I now trusted. "Drive for show, putt for dough."

I would suggest the putter, because the putter will lower your score, not the shoes. And on the topic of the putter, personally I like the Nickent more, but the choice is yours, if you can try them both and see which one you putt better with, and which one feels better.

Old Pings rule. Keep your putter and buy shoes. I personally wear spikes even if I'm popping over to the driving range for 30 minutes. Really make your stance more confident and composed.

for 130 your not getting much selection on putters, but shoes 130s pretty good shoe.

Buy the shoes. For me anyway, i am totally uncomfortable without my shoes. I dont even go to the range without them. Confidence is key in golf and a untrusted stance will lead to all kinds of problems....

The Nickent Pipe

People say it looks funny, but not much more then the Odssey 2 Ball

or Tri-ball for that matter.

and Ive seen people on the tours using the Tri-ball.

I tried about 7 or 8 out that I liked and in my price range. I hit the Nickent best and lined up good with it. even my wife said " you hit with that one the best" and I liked it too. I played with them at edwin watts becasue International Golf (where I had the gift card) didnt have the Nickent in. But they ordered it and will be here in a week or so. I cant wait to try it out on the course. Thanks for all the help.

shoes, I never ride so my shoes are pretty important to me. About a month ago I picked up a pair of Adidas Tour 360 II's. The first time I used them they were extremely uncomfortable and gave me large blisters but since then they have turned into the best shoes I have ever owned. but 180 bills isnt easy to part with for shoes, so there are def a number of more affordible options out there.

I really like the Nickent Pipe, but I just got a new

    • Feel like you are left side dominant. Keep the back of your glove running through impact. Keeps leading edge down without digging. You will pick them clean with some zip if the grass is nice and generally acceptable results off anything less than ideal. Works with both hingy or dead hand pitches and chips.
    • Day 52 (30 Apr 26) - Had planned a solo round, got invited to be part of trio that included a fmr mini tour pro.  Was fun playing back a set of tees and having to stay in my game plan. Both were very engaging and encouraging in the round.  A good day in working through and making smarter shot choices.
    • Day 576 - 2026-04-30 Put my playlist on and slowed down a little as things were meh. Mostly got to an exaggerated P6 and hit from there.
    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
