So strange to find that there's such a consistent issue with PING irons like this. Sucks to hear that you keep having these issues. However, now the fun begins with finding a new set. Since you are on a completely different level than me when it comes to golf it will be interesting to see what you end up with compared to me with my fitting last night.

Yeah it is a real bummer because I loved how my ping irons performed. Sad that they are losing customers to this. I am waiting to get some more feedback on the Hogan irons. I will probably go with either those or I may go with the Edel irons. I have nothing but time to make the decision. It will be fun though.

Not sure, maybe the clubs "clack" together more when you walk.

Definitely, I carry about half the time now, and there are definitely more dings to the surface of my Mizuno's when I started walking. Makes me glad I buy only demo/used stuff. I've just gotten used to clubs looking used.

I've noticed if I use the double shoulder straps the clubs clatter much more than if I use a single strap. When I use the single strap I rest my arm on the bag and my hand on the clubs and they basically don't clatter at all. Defeats the purpose of a double strap bag but I can't stand the sound of the clubs smacking against each other.

Yeah, this is because the motion that causes the "clacks" is reduced by turning the clubs orthogonal to the direction of motion.

It would put a lot of stress on my back for me to walk 6 miles up and down little hills with one strap, though. So, I'd rather suffer "club clack" than "back attack".

I noticed it also starting on my nine iron now too. I love the clubs, but sort of wishing I had gotten the Mizuno's now.

The chrome wears off the Mizuno's too. They do still look nice when "beaten up", though.

I have been in contact with PING since I left for college (I figured I'd be playing much less at the start of my college career since I'm not on the team, so a good time to be without clubs) about a month ago and received confirmation from them today that they are sending me a brand new set of clubs in the mail. For additional detail, the delamination problem had been present on the 6-iron, the 8-iron, the 9-iron, and the pitching wedge (the pitching wedge had NOTHING left on the sole of the club, it was bare metal) when I sent the clubs in, so having 4 clubs in a 3-PW set with problems apparently gets you a full set to replace it.

They called me today asking me what specifications I wanted for the new irons, and they also offered to give me a free upgrade to the Golf Pride Multicompound grips I had installed on my clubs prior to sending them in to PING (new grips, just to be clear, will be put on the new clubs). They were also able to change the shaft flex from stiff to extra-stiff, since I had been initially unable to purchase them with x-stiff shafts due to availability despite being fit into them, at no extra charge to me.

They're giving me a full set of clubs, including upgraded grips and different shafts, absolutely free due to what is admittedly a largely cosmetic issue (I had not been experiencing performance issues). Good on you PING! I will definitely be a customer of yours into the future, if you continue to make top quality products, after experiencing this exceptional customer service.

Awesome customer service on their part. Good on them; they're a great company and I've always recommended them for that reason.

Hopefully with the new stuff PING has solved the issue.

Here's my i E1 7-iron, had them for almost two months, probably the club I've hit the most.

Yeah, the club I hit most was the pitching wedge and within two months (the end of the golf season) the laminate was completely missing from the sole and was starting to come off the face. By the time I sent them in around the end of August/beginning of September this year it was pretty bad, with the face missing its laminate as well from overuse.

That looks pretty good for a highly used club. They will send me the s55's again though, so I imagine the laminate might become a recurring issue since I don't think they changed what they do on their old clubs and instead just updated their laminate going forwards. I'm okay with that though, because when they stop being able to replace my s55's if it keeps happening I can just buy a new set of irons. The fact that they completely replaced my irons makes the whole issue very non-worrying to me, just because Colorado is usually touch and go enough in December that I don't need my clubs for that month most years if I were to need to replace the irons through the same process.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
