The TPC Deere Run has been the proud host of the John Deere classic since 2000. The John Deere Classic is the Quad Cities’ premier golf tournament and the only PGA TOUR event in the region.

The John Deere Classic debuted on the PGA TOUR as the Quad Cities Open in 1971. The John Deere Classic is held annually in July. The tournament's champions list includes some of the most recognized, and in some cases, most decorated names in golf: Deane Beman, Roger Maltbie, D.A. Weibring, Payne Stewart, Vijay Singh and Steve Stricker. At the same time, the John Deere Classic has been a breakthrough tournament for 18 TOUR players, who earned their first victory on the PGA TOUR at TPC Deere Run.

Quote:

SILVIS, Ill. — Jordan Spieth spent 2 1/2 hours off the Bahamian coast last week fighting what turned out to be 300-pound shark.

“A couple of my friends were like, ‘I’ll take over,”’ he recalled on Tuesday afternoon. The relentless competitor in Spieth wasn’t having that. “I’m like, ‘You can bet your rear end you’re not taking over. This is my fish.’”

So to anyone who thinks Spieth – who could join Ben Hogan as the only golfers to win the first three legs of the modern Grand Slam next week at St. Andrews – is playing the John Deere Classic only out of a sense of loyalty to the home of his first PGA TOUR victory …

“I’m focusing on trying to get another one of these,” he said while stroking the leaping deer trophy the winner here will walk away with on Sunday. “I have one of these at my house and there is certainly room for another.”

This is the last chance for PGA Tour players to earn a spot in The Open Championship. Once again, the highest four finishers in the top 12. These notable names are still searching for a spot: -Lumpy Herron -Charles Howell III -Boo Weekley -Steve Stricker(Although, I doubt he would go) -Vijay Singh -Aaron Baddeley -Jerry Kelly -Ryo Ishikawa -Kevin Chappell -Kevin Streelman -Kevin Stadler -Camilo Villegas -Seung Yul Noh -David Toms -K.J Choi -Mike Weir -Jhonny Vegas -Tony Finau -Bo Van Pelt

I really like this tournament. A lot of tour pros I really like such as Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker have had good success here. Cool little place.

Of this group, I'd like to see Finau, Streelman, Ryo, and CHIII get through. I've kind of enjoyed watching for this the past couple events (to include the French Open).

Shirley and I went up for the 2012 JDC. Steve Stricker was trying for his fourth straight win, but Zach Johnson ended up winning it after a playoff with Troy Matteson. Stricker was tied for lead at the turn on Sunday, but three bogies on the back 9 sank him.

It was a fun trip. The whole Quad Cities area really supports it, and John Deere corporation had interesting displays on the history of farming in the USA.

One great thing: The QC area has plenty of motels, and we got a decent room for less than $100 a night.

You could also combine the JDC with a golf trip, as the area has lots of good golf courses.

They said on MD this morn, 35 courses within 35 miles with green fees under $35. Sounds right up my alley.

Maybe for next year, we could arrange a Quad Cities Road Warrior tourney for TST members.

We could play 36 holes each on Tuesday and Wednesday, covering four different courses. Then, we could watch the JDC the next four days.

How many guys overseas do you think are praying for a bad tourney for Jordan? After all, the last thing players want to see is a Jordan Spieth going over there in great form.....kinda like he did at Augusta. He actually went into Chambers in so-so form and still won.

Is anyone planning on going to this tournament?  I will be there on Sunday.

Looks like Jordan is shaking the rust and starting to catch fire.

Yup, as expected.

Like I said, I think people overseas won't be happy that Jordan is playing well. Last thing they want is Spieth coming in with good form.

Spieth seems to be playing exactly like Tiger used to. Sometimes Tiger would start out slow, but really turn it on when he needed to. Not saying Spieth is like Tiger but he is playing great right now.

Watchin the Scottish but just peeked to see what all the Spieth talk was about. 7 under through 14 holes!?!? Damn, he's lightin it up! I was wondering after yesterday's round if it might be better for him to miss the cut and get to Scotland a couple days early. Guess that's a moot discussion topic now.

Yeah he said yesterday he was rusty from really not playing much golf except on a simulator. Said he felt like his game would start coming around again today. Guess he was right.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
