What do you think of a course that withholds weather information, or even misleads golfers trying to decide whether to go out, so that they can get their money, knowing a raincheck will be for credit, not refund?

It's 2015. Every smart phone has the same weather radar that a golf course does. No excuse for not knowing the forecast.

Yeah, that would be one way to justify misleading your customers.  You can always blame them for not knowing about the imminent inclement weather.

Inclement weather is an area that courses vary widely on.  The one I'm at in Florida blows the siren at the first sound of thunder, and even before.  The course I'm at up north does nothing, ever.

As someone has said, with all the weather reports available, I would not ordinarily call a course and ask them for a weather prediction.  That is on me.  Now if I wanted to know whether the course was flooded or had damage from a storm, that might be a reasonable thing to ask.

If one decided the weather outlook was decent enough to drive to the course and then paid for a round, getting just a rain check does not seem out of line.

I never let the weather stop me. It could be pouring at my house and dry at the course or visa versa. If it's raining at the course, I just wait it out. No problems.

In summary, regardless of what the course does, it is on the customer.

If the course has disabled Internet on the "public" computer customers are accustomed to looking at weather radar on, that's OK.

If the guy behind the counter, looking at current radar, says, "There's a small cell 30 miles off,"  when there is a huge storm three miles away, ready to hit, that's OK.

Get the money, issue a credit in a little while.

OK.

If the pro-shop is intentionally lying to customers, then obviously that's not a good business practice.

That's the same thing as saying "I live in Florida."

The Florida situation is easy.

If it even happens to appear to be possibly, maybe, could be inclement, you don't play.

Too many nice days.

Of course, at my Florida course(s), it's not issue, because when it is at 5 ' MSL, and pretty much a marsh to begin with, a trace of rain shuts the place down.

Oh, so there is a line that can be crossed.

Hmmmm.

How about the guy behind the counter intimidating customers, calling them sissies because they're afraid of a little bit of lightning or  a few inches of rain?  For the purpose of getting their money.

Sorry, it wouldn't be prudent to say.  Actually, I have been diplomatic describing how it really is.  I cringe every time I hear/see it happen.

Just wanted to see if others experience this at their own courses, or any courses.

Man up and stop being offended by anything and everything.   Take responsibility for yourself and your own actions.  Stop replying on others to make decision for you.

If you don't like the way the course is run, don't go there. Simple as that.

If someone behind the counter intimidates you and/or being called a sissy because of lightning makes you go play in stormy weather, time to find another course.  I have never run into the problem you have experienced.

My old home course always had a computer screen with the Radar up ( at the front counter) so you could see any rain coming.....     the only time i was leary about playing a round, i asked what would happen if the rain came.... and the guy said he'd give me a free round.... worked for me!!   that and he gave me 50% off too for the round lol....

It is what it is

I think I've lived here too long. :-D I usually play at twilight and the rule is no rain checks. I just realized, in 30+ years, I can only recall getting a rain check once for a daytime round. And I forgot to use it. Found it in my bag months later. I don't think I've ever run across any douche bags that have lied about the weather. Maybe I'm naïve.

What a bunch of nonsense. If any of this is really true, you have a responsibility to warn people not to go there. That's why we have online reviews.

Honestly i have never even thought to ask the course what the weather is like. Ive never heard anyone else do it either. If its raining, or going to rain i would not expect to get my money back. You pay and take your chances. I do expect to be warned by the course if lightning moves into the area to help get people off the course.
