I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that he even kicked your ball in the first place. What in the world made him think you were taking a practice putt?

I'll ask him next time I see him.

Another ball from someone else in our foursome was in the same area of the green that I was.  I had marked my ball.  My guess is he thought the other persons ball was mine and the one I putted was a practice putt.

What action did he take that would influence the movement of the ball in play or alter physical conditions?  In the scenario described, he did neither.  The ball can be replaced and the situation would be as if the fellow-competitor never touched it.

Some examples of a breech of 1-2 would be waving a towel at a ball as it's moving, to try to change its direction, or stepping on a ball to sink it slightly into the green, ruining your fellow-competitor's putt.

EDIT: OK, I see my mistake - I thought reading the OP that the ball was kicked while still in motion.

Agreed.  This is one of the most bizarre stories I've ever heard.  Who the hell takes practice putts before they've finished the hole?

Really, you must be very sheltered if a guy kicking a ball on the green is one of the most bizarre stories you've heard.

I've played with guys before who, if they didn't have time to putt on the practice green before the round, will mark their ball on the first green, and then hit a couple lag type putts (usually away from the hole) to get a feel for the green speed.

If I did not have time to put and there is no group behind I will put a few on the 1st green, after holing out and before moving to #2.

For the guy to kick your ball, he either had a complete brain fart or is a huge Richard.

Not sure what would be the call for that. If you were taking a practice putt he simply could have called you on a penality!

    • I just ordered a Titleist TSR 2 #4 hybrid to replace my 3 driving iron.

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
    • Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.
