I've been Playing Golf for: 2 Months

My current handicap index or average score is: Two 18-holes played only, both 87.

My typical ball flight is: Typically a fade with everything but a driver which hooks really hard.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I hit a lot of thin shots from my over the top swing plane.

I have two golf swings that my girlfriend took of me. The first one is from the 20th of July and the second video is from August 2nd... The one from July is from the side view and the other is from the back. Both of the shots I hit were right around the general region in which I was aiming for. You can see that in both the videos my right hand is under the club and I know I needed to fix that which I'm working on starting tomorrow.

I may suggest looking at your grip. I'm not really in any position to give advice on anything else.

Yeah I know, that was the last sentence I put into my original post.

Apologies, but hopefully the link I added will help.

Yeah work on that grip, use the thread as a reference.

With the swing, I would turn both feet out and work on the hip turn, making sure it's centered and not sliding to the right.

Thanks for the advice Mike. I'm going to the range for the next week or so to work on some my technique's. I'll be working on my swing plane for starters, getting used to my new grip, and flaring out the feet. I never knew something that simple can be so beneficial.

Ok good. Important to note that the swing plane is closely related to what's going on with the grip and pivot.

That I am aware of from the abundance amounts of research I've down within the last two weeks. I now know what I need to fix from the computer screen now I just need to put it into it's physical form.

Update: Went to the range today to strictly focus on my grip and my stance. From the first swing to the last I saw a major improvement. Instead of having a straight fade/push fade, I now have a straight shot or sometimes a push draw (aprox. 10 shots of 100). I was way more accurate than what I was before. I had a few occurances were the ball didn't go where I was looking or aiming for, but for the most part it was a ton more accurate. I definitely noticed it more when I got to the hybrids and my 3 Wood. My balls in my irons felt like they were finally getting pure strikes as well. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience at the range today. Just need to practice the new feeling and put it to the actual test.

That's good news. Keep working on it so it becomes permanent.

Went to the range today and did everything that I did at the range the other day or so I would hoped I have. Everything felt like it is getting better and better still, but something is quite different. Instead of my shot sometimes having a push draw, I was consistently hitting pull fades with Hybrids, 3W, and my driver which I was finally confident in using finally. Any reasons on why this could happen?

Just keep making sure you're doing your pieces. Film it and check. If I had to guess I'd say you're probably falling back into what the old pattern, what feels comfortable.

Alright so since my last post on the site I've been to two 18 holes. Shot a 95 and I played absolutely horrendous, IMO. Everything felt out of tune. Don't get me wrong I still had some nice shots, but I felt most of my strokes came from trying to force the Driver upon myself which I still haven't been able to toy around with to get comfortable with. I felt like I was pressured to hit with my driver off the tee because my two other buddies who have been playing for roughly 4 years now were doing so as well. Well, so today I decided to hit with my 3W off of the Par 4/5's every time and voila it was working like a charm. Straight shots ranging from 250-280 yards and one that rolled down to about 295 according to my girlfriends GPS. I have continually worked on keeping my feet slightly flaired and my grip is working like a charm. I honestly completely forgot to get a video today since I was too focused on getting my girlfriend on calming down from her bad round that she was having, but I will for sure get another video up by Sunday so you guys can check up on it.

  • 2 weeks later...

From three weeks ago I've changed a few things. Stance is not as wide anymore and I attempt to keep my feet shoulder-width apart, my grip has changed since the last video seen, and I flare lout my front foot a little at address. I'm still having trouble hitting the ball to the right. I will have some shots that will fade to the right when I don't want them to. I am wondering if that's timing with my wrists or is it because I don't get my weight forward all the time?

Here is the video...

Because the hips slide back and it hurts your ability to get them forward on the downswing.

Turn the BOTH feet out MORE and review this post.

What exactly does it mean the "hips sliding back". I don't really know what that term means so I wouldn't know how to fix it.
