Hi everybody! Brand new member here .. Going on a quick trip to San Diego this week and wanted to know if anyone could give me any tips for walking on Torrey Pines South for a twilight tee time? Want to try and play it Thursday afternoon. Any advice helps!!

You shouldn't have a problem getting on as a single. Even as an out of towner, there are usually enough groups with openings in them that you shouldn't have to wait more than an hour or two, tops. Just put your name in with the starter and be prepared to practice or grab some food until your name is called.

The challenge for us non locals is trying to get an entire foursome to yourself, which can be next to impossible on a busy summer day. There is no reservation system for out of towners, so you basically have to show up at the crack of dawn and be prepared to wait all day if need be. Or - if you're like a colleague of mine, who was desperate to show some clients a good time but didn't want to wait all day - you give the starter $200 and tell him you would sure appreciate it if he could squeeze you in at the first opportunity.

Thank you for the response Big C. Grease the starter .. That's a new one, but I get it lol. It will actually be two of us going out. Not a big issue I'm guessing?

2 will be a little tougher, but should still be doable. Just block off the whole afternoon and be prepared to wait for a bit. Honestly, I'm not sure when twilight even begins at Torrey, but I'd get there at least 90 minutes beforehand.

I hear the greens get pretty messy in the afternoon with that Poana (sp?) grass.

You can get a tee time as an out of SD county player, but you are going to pay a high fee. I dropped over 400 on the Friday after Thanksgiving last year; two players at 10:00 and the cart cost extra. I don't recall how far out those arrangements were made. Twilight would be considerably cheaper.

Here's the current info:

It was worth every penny though.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

Yea trying to go out at twilight for the discounted rate, but honestly, I would pay the regular rate for the course.

The North course isn't so difficult, is arguable more scenic and is less expensive.  Just saying.

Just called the reservation system, currently the best time for two on the North after 2 PM is 4:15.  Sunset is 7:24, you wouldn't be able to finish, but you could play a nice 9 hole round.

You can use the automated phone system yourself, 619-570-1234.  Keep trying, I've had luck one or two days before the round as some folks will cancel their rounds and if lucky you can pick those up.

No Mulligans, I appreciate that! I will keep trying that number. Thanks!

    • Rush or delay your own pace and you are probably going to suffer in the long run. PGA pro are well oiled machines that work on an specific pace, it's not surprise that if you move them out of their normal routine things are going to go sideways. I normally don't rush shots, but I sometimes delay the trigger if I'm not feeling it. The result is a lack of athleticism, I kind of get a little stiff and I could loose some yards and accuracy.
    • It seems like the title to this thread may have been edited. Super hilarious BTW.
    • Argentina: I read about the 3 or 4 clubs challenge in several countries. Here in Argentina, once a year, on several clubs, "Torneo de Brujas" (The witches tournament) is played. It consist on the same concept, only 4 clubs are allowed but the difference is that only woman can play it. What amaze me is that the winning scores are almost the same as if they were playing with all 14 clubs. Seems like sorcery to me..
