In re: not putting wife on pedestal: he is somewhat correct and there are evolutionary reasons why. Read "the Married Man Sex Life." It will change your life and how you view relationships.

This was a hard lesson to learn but an important one that I share with all of my friends who can't seem to "keep her happy" or "get permission" from their wives. Make yourself your focus and watch what happens around you.

I have a feeling that this has more chance of failure than success in marriage.  My wife and I started playing golf at the same time to avoid this.

I'm not married but what I've gathered, at least from my own experiences, is that there has to be a balance between focusing on yourself, your partner, and shared focus.

But, everyone's different, so, I could totally be way off base here. :-$

Simple solution for those of us who have been married for many years - Just roll over in the morning swat your wife on the butt and say "which is it this morning, sex or golf?"

She will be making tee times for you in no time.

Four old-timers were playing their weekly game of golf, and one remarked how nice it would be to wake up on Christmas morning, roll out of bed and without an argument go directly to the golf course, meet his buddies and play a round.
His buddies all chimed in and said, "Let's do it, we'll make it a priority, figure out a way and meet here early Christmas morning."
Months later, that special morning arrives, and there they are on the golf course.
The first guy says, "Boy this game cost me a fortune! I bought my wife such a diamond ring that she can't take her eyes off it."
Number 2 guy says, "I spent a ton, too. My wife is at home planning the Cruise I gave her. She was up to her eyeballs in brochures."
Number 3 guy says "Well my wife is at home admiring her new car, reading the manual."
They all turned to the last guy in the group who is staring at them like they have lost their minds.
I can't believe you all went to such expense for this golf game. I slapped my wife on the butt and said, 'Well babe, Merry Christmas! It's a great morning for either sex or golf,'  and she said... 'Take a sweater!'"

I tried this before.

Me: "Hey honey, what's it gonna be- morning sex or golf?"

Wife: "Take your umbrella, it may rain."

Seriously I might be one of the luckiest guys on earth but my wife has a big sex drive lol. She'd be like "what the f do you think?" and then get in position.

I think she has the sex drive of a guy. Something must have happened during the formation stages and she got a woman body but still the male sex drive lol.

Ha!  My wife would probablymake a comment along the lines of "well your tee time is in 45 minutes, don't see why you can't do both".

Lol yeah. I've never understood the lack of sex drive thing. It's not like I'm Adonis over here and I've never had this issue. I'm telling you people, read that book I posted about earlier.

Dude this makes no sense at all. If they didn't really want to golf, why the hell would they be on this site? It's not like someone is forcing them to be here.....

Just because somebody comments on a golf message board doesn't make them an avid golfer.

Take this man's advice and read that book, it is a life (marriage) saver. You'll understand my comments earlier once you read it.

I told my gf about this thread last night, funny thing is she thought once a weekend for golf was reasonable yet I am playing 2-3 times this weekend and she didn't say a word. What a woman says she wants and what a woman actually wants are two different things.

Cool I'm glad it has helped you. It can all be explained by evolution. That is why "nice guys" rarely get women by being overly nice and worshippy and that is certainly not a turn on. This book isn't about being a jerk. It is much more complicated than that and you aren't actually being a jerk. But women are physically attracted to certain traits while others are a turn off. Our generation has been screwed over by sitcoms where the husband is an idiot and worships his superior wife.

Don't agree with much of what he says about political and social but Bill Maher did a routine on that, saying (I am paraphrasing here)"Isn't it offensive, that we have to accept that every sitcom these days showcases a beautiful, smart woman who saves the day and the dumb F___ lucky to marry her?".

My wife and I have a great relationship, and believe me, I am anything but a pushover.  I am far more of a type A personality and she knows it.  All in all she lets me play when I want, she just wants her time with me as well.  There is nothing wrong with that.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
