Which also puts his Ryder Cup chances in jeopardy.

Quote:

However, Casey’s disenchantment with the European Tour is such he is showing little inclination to make the move. He is due in London next week and hoping to meet new chief executive Keith Pelley before making a final decision. Asked by Sportsmail if he was leaning towards staying away, he replied: ’That would be a totally fair assumption.’

Casey added: ‘I will be brutally honest with you. I love the European Tour and I’d like to be part of a better tour, but I want to see change. I’m really not sure I’m going to rejoin.’

Unclear is the more understandable emotion that Casey is still peeved at his omission from the 2010 team when he was a top 10 player and well established as a match play specialist.

‘I think I could make a massive contribution to the European team but I didn’t get picked in 2010 when I was in the world’s top 10, so who’s to say I’d make it even if I did rejoin?’ he said, wryly.

Can understand why he's doing it. It's a shame though as he is a good player and one that I would say could contend with Europe's best to get in the team.

Yep, agree its about the money. They can play week in week out for bigger prize money than on the European Tour. I can only see the Euro tour declining if something isnt done about the prize money (which isnt exaclty bad) but im sure a lot of it is down to the tournament sponsors and a relative lack of "big name" events.

Maybe doing a similar thing to Tennis. They have ATP 250 and ATP500 events, the 500 is bigger money, better players at better known venues.

Players need incentive to play a particular tour, so is it time for the PGA and Euri to join forces?

I'm sure the money makes things a lot easier, but he sounds like he's actually pissed at the Tour for whatever reason. If I get to see one of my favorite players more stateside and it makes the Euro Ryder Cup team weaker, well, I guess if you twist my arm I might be OK with the move...

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
