What'd You Shoot Today?

I played today at Belmont CC.  I played one of my better rounds for most of the day.  My tee shots were finding the fairway or getting close.  My approach shots were awesome, I probably hit 9 greens today.  Almost par'ed 6 holes in a row except for one bogey on #9.  It was one of my better rounds until hole 16, when I went OB and got a triple, then on 17 went OB and got a quadruple.  Finally on 18, I was 130 out and hit into the water, and then chipped all over the place for another triple.  So I finished 7-8-8 for one of my worst rounds in the last 15 for a 98.

Here is my guess as to why this happened.  Coached my sons baseball team from 8-10 in the morning, went straight to the course.  Played a round of golf without eating a thing.  I'm guessing that my body just gave out on me at the end there because I was hungry and tired.  I need to get in better shape and bring something to eat.

Played today, probably wasn't a good idea. It was below freezing and blowing 25 mph winds. My hands froze at about the 9th or 10th hole, but it did matter because i wasn't playing very well today. i went 40-41 for a 81 on a course that is pretty short (5400 yards).

Just played 9, 42 with 3 doubles and 2 birdies. I actually hit the ball great but the greens are really rough. Would have hit every fairway if not for the ball rolling through it once due to the dead grass.

Back out again this morning for another 42, this time on the back 9, and again with 3 freakin' doubles. Crazy thing is between the 2 days I had just 31 putts. Even crazier of the 31 I had two 3 putts and one 4 putt. I did chip in once so but still. Just a few kinks to work out but it's early and it was gusting up to 25 mph today. I'll go back out later and see if I can score better.

Posted a 51 yesterday on the Front Nine of Moody Gardens Golf Course...

Had a great opening 4 holes were I was +1 going in... then we ran into the rest of a crowded course ...

Sprayed shots on the Par 5 5th hole where I hit a guy in the driving range (I bought him a couple of beers for the trouble) and the wheels fell off..

Plunked a 22* Hybrid off the tee on the Par 3 6th

Blasted my driver into OB on the 7th

Survived the 8th by some miracle of the Golf Gods (who took pity on me)

Dropped 3 balls into the drink on the Par 3 9th...

M.I.S.E.R.A.B.L.E.

Oh well I will tee it up again tomorrow morning....

Continuing on with my patheticness from yesterday.  Today I got 5 - 7's on the front 9.  I guess I get to blame it on coaching my son's baseball team, and hitting hundreds of balls with a fungo.  That has to be the reason my swing is off for the last 2 weekends, that is when baseball started.  Shot a 52 on the front.  The only thing that was going good was my putting.  Today was Callaway Demo Day at my course and decided not to test any clubs because I knew they would find their way into my bag.

I shot a 88 today, definitely down from the 84 yesterday. No birdies, 3 pars on the front and 1 par on the back, 44 and 44. I actually walked the course today soI'll blame it on that today. Going out of town for a week so no golf till the 27th or 28th

I actually shot a 102 today..............

Working on some swing changes, which has taken away my fade and added some distance so I struggled with distance and alignment all day.  It was also under 40 degrees with wind gusts up to 40mph, which never helps.  I had way too many 3 putts today (4 total), which never helps either.  With the cold, wet conditions, I just had to feel on the greens today.

Even with a 102, I can say that my contact has never been better, so that's a plus.  We will try again tomorrow with better weather conditions and work on not aligning to the left side of the fairway and the green.

99.  Actually struck the ball really well (for me). Putting was the downfall.  Had two GIR's that I 3-putted to bogey.  Argh.  Still the best way to start the day though...

Shot 103 yesterday - fairly happy with that since it was my first round since the beginning of October. Only hit 100 balls over the winter, and only 50 of those with my new iron set.

Only hit a couple of fat shots (fat shots are my miss) - need to figure out why I'm hitting the ball so low.

Shot 95 this weekend at my local course. Had a great round going 4 bogeys and 4 pars thru 8, but the 9th hole has my number and I almost always triple it, so I did. Then proceeded to hit the water on 10 for another triple. Managed 2 more pars on the back 9, so still a great round for me. If I can ever get past 9 and 10 without hitting the water or OB, I might break 90 for the first time. (91 is my personal best)

Played at my home course again today, three days in a row.  I'm getting excited because the bermuda is starting to come out of it's dormant stage.  Also excited because I started figuring out my swing again today.  Couldn't hit the driver today so I left it in the bag after hole 4 and used my 3 wood the rest of the day.  Putted exceptionally well, chipped good too.  Shot a 93 after starting par, double, double, triple.  Hole 5 started my comeback.  I went par, bogey, par, then bogeyed 9-17 and then doubled on 18.  Playing more helps but starting to keep my left arm straighter than it was and trying not to swing as hard as i can. Will post a video of my swing when I get a chance, so you guys can give me more tips.

I'm new around here, won't post too often, and I love reading about you good golfers.

But I thought some of you would have a chuckle at my expense. Don't worry, I laugh at it all myself :)

I'm going to start by saying I stink at golf. I don't play often enough to get good, or make it worth joining a club. But you know, I really do enjoy it.

I played a beautiful course a couple Thursdays ago, Lakes Resort. Championship course, which will obviously hurt recreational golfers like me. Lot of water, and OB was basically thick native bush, so you're not getting anything stray back.

Great day out, course really cool, with a lot of cool features. We couldn't help but hit from the championship tee on 10 and 18.

After lessons a while ago that straightened me out, my fade returned, and I lost 18 balls! It was awesome, my buddy never wants to come play with me again!

Lets say I almost doubled par for the round, with the 36 for lost ball pens not helping. I do keep a proper score though.

Best hole of the day was a par on the dogleg right par 4 2nd hole. Faded the drive to just on the corner. Faded 3 wood, impacted 5m from the green, bounced up and rolled on there. Good lag putt, and 1m putt for par. It was about as good as I could ever play.

And a flop shot I hit with my $20 new Ray Cook lob wedge. Never used on course before, just open face and stance lobs into the couch at home. 2m to the green, 1m higher than the green, hole 10m away, ball on the downward slope of rough leading into a greenside bunker. Plopped that puppy up in the air right on the green, rolled downhill, passed the hole 1inch to the left and rolled a foot past. My buddy was gobsmacked, he said he witnessed me just about hole the hardest shot in golf no problem, and enjoyed watching the ball spin in the air.

Hit 5 fairways, and I think 12 holes were 2 putt or less, so there were positives for me.

So, while most of you all might snap or chuck a few clubs, I was loving it :)

And don't worry I'm good for golf balls. Hit another course 3 times after that, got about another 50 for the bag. I'm so bad, found balls probably make me play better ha.

Hope this post gives some of you a laugh...

It was great to get out and play on Presidents Day... This is the first time since college that I've had Presidents Day off from work, which was pretty nice!

Also, it was my first round in over a week as I had my wisdom teeth removed last Thursday, so I was forced to take some time away from the course and practice range to get fully healthy.  I definitely had the itch to get out and play this morning - I guess there is only so much putting I can do indoors before I go insane?

I putted very well.  Unfortunately my ball striking wasn't as crisp as it has been.  I pissed away a chance to go lower on #18.  I had 218yds left to the center of the green - 235 to the back... My drive (wind in my face) was absolutely creamed.  Best drive I hit all day and was sitting dead center of the fairway.  With the wind in my face I knew I would have to hit a 3W to have a chance of getting the ball back to the flag which was in the back of the green.  And I haven't been hitting my 3W worth a damn for months.  I tried to just slow down and make a nice smooth shoulder turn... Ended up hitting it fat - and slicing it into the water hazard on the right (WTF).  Walked away with a bogey... So pissed at myself for doing that.  I swear, if I could just execute on Par 5's I'd easily be a 3 handicap.

44 on the front and 42 on the back for an 86. 6 pars, 7 bogies, 4 double's.  Missed a few birdie attempts.

Made some long putts to save par on a couple of holes which really helped.

An 8 on a par 4 didn't help in the front 9.  Plus had a few holes where I didn't get the right read and forced me into 3 putts.

Overall I like where my swing is at now, have to adjust club selection because I am making better contact; hit some approach shots too far.

I feel I'm really close to breaking 80 now with this swing I have used the past 2 rounds.  I didn't hit one shot thin today; had about 3/4 shots heavy though.

    • Day (2 May 24) - somehow I missed posting both Tues and Weds practice sessions - so the streak ends and a new one begins…. Focus today was on ball first contact using the Divot Board for reference.   Worked with 7i, 9i and GW hitting hard foam balls.  Started hap hazardly and then settled back into my pre-shot setup.  Much more consistent in the latter.
    • So, Newey is out at Red Bull. Where does he go in a year? Is Max still with RBR in 2026? Hmmmm.
    • August 2010 Woodfin Ridge 18th hole Playing in a large tournament with a slew of friends and the last day was two man best ball. The 18th, when it was bent grass, was very fast due to a steep slope on the right side. I had seen many people over the years putt off the green from above the hole. I hit a great drive and 3W to 30’ left of the hole. With everyone watching my partner hit it way too fast and never high enough and his ball rolled all the way to the bottom of the green.  I hit mine much higher and the ball came to rest about 20” above the hole. Then it slowly started trickling towards the hole for a walkoff eagle! Nobody said anything except my partner who was yelling pretty loudly. I looked at the crowd and told them it was okay to clap because it was a great putt, and they gave me a bunch of polite golf claps and brought me a beer!
    • Day 127: 5/2/24 Stack Full Speed spectrum training session 6/24. Training speed was 5 mph higher than previous high, as was e-speed. Still not as high as I have done in previous programs, but just 1 mph lower. Battling through a neck issue, and possible trigger fingers. Happy with results.
    • Day 49. Played 9 from tees a bit beyond my comfort zone and was humbled. Hit a couple good shots so will take that at least.
