What'd You Shoot Today?

42. Driving was decent, my distance with iron play is back to normal but I'm pushing everything off to the right, and I'm hitting a lot of shots really thin (and I got away with most of them, too). Putting's a let down as usual (18 putts). 5/7 fairways, 3/9 greens. Up and down twice, and got in the hole from the fringe with the flat stick on the 9th.

Edit: Ugh. Heat. 96 degrees, heat index ~105.

Shot 80 after letting the elusive 79 out of my grasp yet again with a double bogey on 17.

Course is Par 72 6797 yards.

I shot 39 on the front which is par 35, just couldn't quite get it together enough although I did hit some good shots the putts were not falling enough to really go low.

On the back I shot 41 for par 37 including an eagle on 10, which is the only one I am 100% sure I have ever made, although I think I have in the past. I hit a beautiful drive, carving it around the dogleg out to about 200 yards on a 500 par 5, then hit a nice little 5 iron that rolled up on to the front of the green about 3 feet away from the cup.

I doubled 17 because I played far more conservatively than I should have and I couldn't manage to save the 79 on the last hole - a 541 par 5 - parred it for an 80.

Too bad, I had it in my grasp all I had to do was not mess it up.

I shot an 83 today on a relatively easy course. No mulligans. Didn't go in the water once and didn't lose one ball. Great day :)

I shot it here

Edit:

Tried the new Maxfli Fire balls today. I really like them. I think they are my new ball of choice with the exception of the Urethane balls that I don't want to pay for.

Played 12 holes today. Hit 10 greens. Shot 1 under. Normally I'd be somewhat happy with this outcome, but, I had a lost ball on our driveable par 4 11th. Nice double-bogey on a guaranteed birdie hole. YAY GOLF!

77 at Whispering Woods. Doubled 18 (again). Played like butt on the front but shot 39 - was getting up and down and missing in good spots, then parred every hole on the back nine until the last.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Yesterday was my 12th full round of golf since returning to golf from a 6 year break. (Im 21 years old and quit golf when I was 15)

I have been playing pretty much every day for the last two weeks and I have averaged an 85, only 2-3 rounds at 90 or above with lots in the low 80's. This was pretty close to my average scores when I played 6 years ago at the age of 14-15.

Two rounds ago I shot 85 having doubles and a tripple bogey on the back nine ending my rounds. The day before I shot 82 having double bogeyed the last two holes otherwise would have broke 80 for the first time since coming back.

Today I felt like it was my day, I played in 100+degree heat again. So it was going to be another round of sweat drenched clothes, I came equiped as usual with 2-3 bottles of water and my favorite lemon gatorade. I started off on the Front 9 as usual at my club which is a par 35 and I think about 10 strokes easier then the back nine for some reason. I started off with a bogey at the first hole which I always do, a routine par at the 2nd which is a easy par 3, then the 3rd hole hit. Our 3rd hole is a 350 yard easy dog leg left with OB (houses) on the left, so if you pull it 15-20 yards offline you are gonna hit a house. I played it smart, easy 3 iron middle of fairway 100 yards out then a nice sandwedge to about 25 feet away from the pin - then a 3 putt. So im +2 after 3 holes, not a good way to start my round, another par at the 4th which is really easy then I got to the 5th a 550 yard par 5 with water in the front, impossible to go for in two. I duffed my 2nd lay up shot and it went baout 100 yards up the fairway leaving me a 175 yard 6 Iron - I wanted to hit a 5-Iron but I broke it at the driving range a year ago and havent fixed it yet. My shot was hit as hard as I could hit my 6 iron and ended up 10 feet short of the green, which is only 5 feet past the water - lucky me. I chipped my shot at the 5th about 4 feet from the pin, then missed the putt and ended up with a bogey. Next hole is a 150 yard par 3, I missed the green 10 feet right and chipped up and two putted another bogey - im now +4 after 6 holes not the best of starts. Next hole is a 470 dogleg right Par 5 with tree's that you can carry your teeshot over to give you an long-short iron approach, I tried to go over the trees but hit a bad hook and ended up behind some other trees had to punch out got up and down for a par. This next hole is one of the hardest on the course - 8th is a Par 4 dog leg left about 375 yards with water/trees everywhere. You basically have to play an iron off the tee, mine today was a 3-iron but I ended up pushing it far right away from the hole leaving me about 200 yards to the green and underneath a tree. I hit a fantastic low 3 iron that flew under the trees landed short of the green but kept rolling till it went off the back of the green - very unlucky leaving me an impossible down hill chip. I bladed my 3rd shot and it quickly scooted off the green 15 yards off. I remember thinking I could really use some luck right now and a chip in - the golf gods answered I hit a perfect chip to the uphill hole and rolled right in the cup for one of the luckiest Pars in the world - I almost felt like Tiger at the PGA this weekend. Our 9th is a Par 3 and I've made par on it every time ive played it - and I did again. I finished the front nine +4 which is a 39 sending me into the back nine which has been my bane, and I've averaged about 45/46 on it.

So I start the back 9 - feeling a little better since the 8th hole and my luck felt like it was changing and I shot 39 which is always a good feeling, I pared 10th, then 3 putted for bogey on 11 from just off the front of the green, then 12th was another bad one. 12th is a 150 yard par 3, I pulled my 8 iron 15 yards left of the hole, chipped over the green by about 5 yards, duffed my next chip leaving me about a 20 foot put which I luckily made for a 4 trying to keep my card clean of double bogeys. Next hole I two putted from 10 feet on a par save attempt, now im +7 after 13 (this is a par 71 course). So the 14th hole is really annoying for me, its a 120 yard Par 3 and I cant seem to find the right club for it, my pitching wedge would always sail over the green by 10 yards even when I try to hit it easy, so I put a new sandwedge in my bag and its been helping especially on today, I landed it just off the green and two putted for par. Next hole I got a routine Par, Fairway->green->two putt, im now +7 with only 3 holes to play I think I can do it now. This next hole has been one of my favorites its a Par 5 that curves to the left its only about 470 yards but is completely gaurded by trees all down the left and to the right of the green is water. Lucky for me I can hit a draw and have been hitting my 3 wood all the way down the fairway to about 150-160 yards out - I decided to play it safe and hit 3 Iron but hit it straight with no draw and ended up in the right rough just off the fairway. I layed up with a 7iron and had about a 30 yard pitch and had it roll 15 feet past the pin for a makeable birdie. I made the put and now im only +6 with two holes to play - the same two holes I double bogeyed the day before. On the 17th I hit a 3Iron again and sliced it so bad it went in the other fairway but had a shot at the green over the trees. I hit to about 10 feet short of the green - duffed my chip to 25 feet short of the pin and two putted for bogey - im now only +7 - one hole to go I can finally break 80 again - I hope. The last hole is deceptively hard - its only about 520 yards for a par 5 but the green is gaurded in the front by water so you'll need a perfect drive to even think about going for it in two, the tee shot is even more hard as there are two giant oak trees gaurding the fairway about 185 yards from the tee on both the left and right giving you only about 15 yards to hit your drive through - and you cant get over them with a 3 wood. So I elected to hit a 3 wood because I wasnt going to risk going for it in two, but I pushed it badly to the right and almost lost my ball in the rough after looking for it for 5 mins but finally found it before I was gonna go back to the tee and take my penalty. I was in a bunch of trees so I punched out with a 7 iron to about 160 yards - I got a little worried the pin was in a tough posistion today after carrying water you have to get over a bunker that gaurds the right side of the green where the pin was - I wanted to play smart and went for the middle of the green - I hit a perfect shot pin high and had a 15 foot putt for birdie - I missed but was still happy cause i shot 78!!

I shot 78 which is only two worse then my all time best of 76 when I was 14. Looking back at it besides the last 5 holes where I played even par when I usually go +5 or 6 the round wasnt that spectacular - had I not 3 putted or duffed some chips I would've shot around 74/75. I felt like I played exactly the same as when I shoot 82-85 except I didnt make any really bad mistakes (aka doubles or tripple bogeys). Hopefully I can keep breaking 80 as it is a huge boost to my confidence breaking 80 again after only 2.5 weeks.

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

88 yesterday @ Norwoods in Hannibal. 1st time playing there in 5 years or so, it hasn't grown-up as much as I'd hoped. Started slow, a nice middle and imploded @ the end. it was HOT! Thank god we had a 7:00 tee.
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

75 on Flanders Valley Red-Gold.
Out in 39 with one bird, In with a 36 and four birds. Missed some easy putts, and had some great second shots to make up for not my best tee round. Had about 6-7 approaches within 8 feet.
Thats my best round!

Shot 86 today 74.0 / 132 @ around 7,000 yards. 46 front and 40 on the back. Putted tremendously even though the score doesnt show it. This course is so penal in the fact that the rough is so high and there is heavy fescue like five or so yards off some of the fairway. Lost three balls on the front nine. Ugh I hate losing balls

Shot an 87 today. Pretty tough course, about 6700 yards or so...I played okay around the greens, only three putted once, but my ball striking has been real off the past week. It's gotten better the past two days, but still, a lot of fat and heavy hooked shots...I'll get it straightened out eventually, though.

92 this morning. I was 15 over par (50) on the front and 5-over (42) on the back. Most of the damage on the front came on two par-fives where I scored a 12 and an 8. I think I need to do two things to improve my scores: eliminate the three-putts (that alone would have saved 6 shots today) and either warm up before playing or really play conservatively until I get warmed-up. I was twelve over for the first four holes (which included those par-fives) and only eight over for the remaining 14.

46. Played the back nine of The Willows for the first time in a while. God, that back nine tore me a new one. I forgot how severe the greens are there since the last time I played (I carded in a 37 then).

4/7 fairways, 3/9 greens, 21 putts. Ugh. I four-putted my only par 3 GIR.

3 over 39 on the Front 9. I played well and hit more GIR's then I usually do. my putting was alot better today and was easily making those 4-5 footers no problem. Wedge still needs alot of work, im completely hitting it sideways.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
