Thanks! Much appreciated. Golf has been a great new hobby , seeing progress is encouraging.

It is such a great game…maddening, cruel and fickle…but it’s an entire lifestyle to me…so glad youre a part if it!

41-41-82

Oh so close to breaking 80! Three three putts and another double when I hit my drive in a really bad spot. Only one birdie and most of my pars were of the up-and-down variety but that part of my game was really on. The resulting putts were almost gimmes. It's going on three years getting back into the 70's. I hope I do it in golf again before I do it with age (next October). 😎

41 35 - 76 Sepulveda Golf, Balboa Course in LA…putter was in fire…missed more greens than I’d like, but got all kinds of balls up and down…played the white tees as is my norm as I am a senior golfer…72 degrees and sunny to start - got cold (well, SoCal cold) on the back 9…had a blast with my great group of old geezers…pic of 18 as we finished…we had a 12:10pm super senior time - 24 bucks including cart…

2nd 84 in a row at RiverBend today from the whites (just over 6,000yds), temps in the mid-40’s, light winds, course empty of other golfers (I was the first out at 11am).  We had about 1-1/2 inches of rain yesterday so I was not sure how it would play, but thankfully as dry as it has been, the rain was not an issue.  Still I thought  it was going to be a low to mid-90’s as I was 46 on the front with two double bogies and six bogies, shaping to be a day of near misses for par on the front.  As it turned out it was a tale of two 9’s with a 46 on the front and 38 on the back.  10 and 11 were for par and 12 and 13 for bogie.  Plus 2 on the back with 4 holes to go.  14 - 15 - 16 were all par, with legit birdie opportunities on 14 and 16.  15 was an up and down for par.  17 was another bogie as I came up short on the approach and the par putt was just long.  Wow - plus 3 on the back heading into 18, it is now that I realize I have a legit shot at sub-40 for 9 holes (par 35 for these 9).  Decent 3w off the tee.  Decided to lay up with the 8i, giving a LW into the green.  3rd shot landed close enough for a 6’ putt for par.  Stats wise - 6 of 14 fairways hit, the misses were just in the longer stuff (dead grass this time of year makes the rough less rough), 4/18 GIR with 5 nGIR, 35 putts.  For a chilly day, it was a solid day of golf for me.

89 on my revisit to Minnesott from the whites.  They had me start off the back so two of the toughest holes on the course were the first two faced.  Shot 44 on the back, nothing really to talk about.  No penalty strokes, no birdies, two pars, a double and six bogies.  Making the turn, shot 45 on the front, no penalty strokes, two pars, two doubles and five bogies.  Best played hole of the day was the last - number 9 a par 3 over water.  Solid 6i off the tee, and a 40’ first putt that finished about 3’ past, short putt for par.  Had 7 of 14 fairways hit, 2 GIR, 3 nGIR, 34 putts.  Greens were slick fast, misses downhill would roll what seemed forever.  Meant thinking about 180deg from the putting on the greens at RiverBend which are slow.

85 from the whites at Minnesott today with a 39 on the front and 46 on the back.   Round started par, par, bogie, bogie.  Was thinking okay, should be decent.  Playing the 845s Silver Scot irons from late 80’s along with older Vokey wedges (pre-mill grind spec).  I really enjoy the TA irons and today was one of those days where they were either slight fade or straight down the pike.  Get to number five, a par three I rarely hit the green off the tee, as I tend push the tee shots right. Took the 4i and drilled it for a 3’ putt for birdie.  Back down to +1 through 5.  Bogie six and seven, but finish the back with two more pars for +3 through nine.  Thinking it could be the day for “sub-80” score.  Ten rose up to bite with a double bogie six.  Eleven was nicer with just bogie.  Par on twelve and thinking the ship is back on course.  Not - as 13-16 were all bogies. Seventeen was the other double bogie for the day and I wound up scrambling on eighteen to keep it at bogie.  Looking at the stats - 8 of 14 fairways hit, 4 of 18 GIR plus 3 more nGIR, total 33 putts (only 1 three putt).  Good day of golf!

Decent round on Monday.  Par, birdie (great third shot to tap in distance), bogey x 2, par, double x 2, bogey x 2, par x 5, birdie (another great third shot to tap in distance), par, bogey, par.  Brilliant back 9 when I look at the score card now.  Even

A bonus day in the Philly area with mild temperatures in the 60's. 45-43-88.

One of my worst putting days of the year, missing 5 putts in the 3-4 foot range. I felt I was letting my partner down because he was holding up his end in our friendly BB money match. But I made a ten footer to win 18 and half the match. Better than losing and it made the bonus day that much better.

Played Pinehurst #2 this morning.  Teed off at 9:30, we had a frost delay.  31 on the front, 38 on the back (starting temp and finishing temp). Well enough about the weather!

Bundled up with 3 layers, hand warmers and beanies! It was so cold on the range the balls had icicles on them!  Shotgun start, started on hole #3 with an opening par! Then alternated with pars and bogeys until the 8th hole and started a string of pars thru the 11th. A bogey on 12 and then another string of pars thru the 17th. Bogey on 18. Made the turn to play the 1st and 2nd holes and made pars. 39/38 for a frigid 77!

Playing #4 tomorrow…..weather conditions forecasted to be the same!  Two days ago it was 70 here!

As forecasted a cold morning.  34 degrees at 8:30.  Mens Club day on #4.  Little breezy but tolerable.  Just two of us 8n the group, we flew around the course, 2 hrs 45min!  Our scores reflected that pace, for me I was one over 37 on the front, 2 over 38 on the back! Putted lights out, 29 total. 14 on the front, 15 on the back. Buddy was 40/40, 80.

Heres what’s crazy, I had 9 fairways, 9 GIR’s.  Of the 9 greens I hit 4 were inside 8ft, missed them all!  On the flip side, made multiple par saves fro 10ft or more! Just crazy, felt like the priest on Caddyshack!! Had a lag putt from off the green on 17. Just get it close I thought, putt was 67 feet (yeah I paced it off), I knew the break, it lipped out on stopped on the other side of the cup 2 inches.

#8 tomorrow.  Today was round 244 for the year.

92 today (47 / 45) at RiverBend.  Was a quick afternoon round with my five year old grandson, last round before Christmas for sure.  Weather around 50, course dry from the rain earlier in the week.  Was not super focused on shooting low scores as it was about being with the kiddo who has been sick most of the week.  Had a blast watching him enjoy the game.  Oh yeah, playing the Diablo Edge irons I really think cost me about 10 strokes today as opposed to the SLDR irons.  Like the Diablos in the winter for the wider soles in soggy fairways  but just never felt locked in today - spraying drives (4 of 14), way short on approaches (1 GIR, 3 nGIR), greens bouncy (37 total).  I will take a day like this anytime I can get smile like this…

Finally got out to the course again yesterday after a busy last couple of weeks. A coworker and I played the front nine at Croasdaile from the green tees, which are around 2700 yards. I shot 42 (an 8.4 differential) with a birdie, two pars, five bogeys and a double. My coworker shot 49 and I beat him 3&2.

Not great, but my new putter is red hot. My birdie on the third was from about eight feet, I made a ten footer to save par on four, then almost made a downhill 25-footer for birdie on the fifth.

I was honestly just happy to be back on the course after a busy last few weeks, so looking forward to getting back into the grind!

Steel Canyon - 12/24/2021

Shot a 78!  Sadly, Steel Canyon's par is 61.

Not too disappointed though, since it's the first time on a golf course since September, as the new job has kept me a little busier than I had anticipated.  I was 11 over on the front nine and only six over on the back.  I really struggled with the short game and putting, but that got better as the round progressed and I began to get my touch around the greens.  I actually snagged a birdie on the short par 3 13th hole, parred 14, and parred 17 and 18.  The lesson I took has really helped my ball striking and distance, but I am a bit unsure of how far I hit each club, and wound up over the back of some greens or with some really long putts.  I am hoping to get out again on Tuesday.

I got in 18 yesterday at Umstead. The front nine was with a few buddies and I shot a 43 from the blues with three pars and a double. Then they left and I decided to continue on to the back despite having a little over an hour of daylight left, which turned out to be a mistake.

I essentially rushed the last four holes, and playing them at +9 turned what was a decent nine up until then into a horrible one: I finished with a 52 for the back and a 95 total. Definitely not my finest round.

The good news: I’m playing again tomorrow, and hopefully we have an earlier tee time so getting in 18 isn’t a problem.

Pine Hills Golf Club - Winder, GA - 68.4/113

Shot an 89.  Hitting my irons much better with every swing, but had a real issue with the driver.  Pulled everything hard left, and wound up just hitting three woods off the tee for most holes.  This worked out really well, as I was piping right down the middle all day.  Putting was still an issue, but that had a lot to do with the greens.  Some were like shag carpet, others were crusty and lightning fast, and some were both on a single green.  Most importantly, I managed to avoid any sevens on the scorecard!

Also, was visited by a dog.

Shot an 85 at Minnesott today (did play up one set of tees to the golds) 41 front, 44 back.  Course was packed so, I figured playing up one set would help keep my pace moving - still did a lot of waiting.  Round started really good, for me, with par - bogie - bogie - par the remaining five were bogie - bogie - par - bogie - par.   Making the turn, I went par - par and then lightning struck.  An easy par 3 and I make triple!  Pushed tee shot left into the tall pines guarding that side of the hole.  Sitting on the edge of the cart path, I see that I can punch through to the flag and still miss the bunker guarding it.  Not - as I flipped my wrists to see the ball fly about 10 yds.  Third shot, same club and I do the same thing again.  Now I am at the edge of the bunker hitting four.  Change to the 58 as the pin is tucked close and I get on but now I am putting for dbl.  Two putt and I walk off with a triple bogie.  That one stung.  Did not last long as I went back to making bogie on the next four holes.  Sixteen is the last par 5 of the day and I have a good shot at an up and down birdie, come up short and make par.  Finished the back nine at 8 over and a 44.  Not the best round ever but one of the most consistent with nothing higher than a "6".  Takeaways for the day:  (1) the work on the strengthening the grip paid off as I was 8 of 14 on fairways hit plus a couple that were less than a yard off the short stuff; (2) Driver distances and accuracy much better; (3) playing from the golds allowed me to mix it up off the tee - Driver, 3w, 3h and irons, love having options!; (4) most par 4's were a mid-iron in and (5) putter was quietly confident.  GIR was 4 with 5 nGIR!  Was happy with that one and total putts were 33 as I set myself up with good chances for par and a few holes birdie.  Would love to have converted the birdie opportunities, but the fact I am seeing them is a tick in the right direction.  Tomorrow, weather permitting, will likely be the last round of the year, grandson wants to play another local course.  Should be a fun time.

I shot an 89 from the white tees today (men's) at Walden Country Club. Course was a 69.1/122 based on winter tees.

7 greens in regulation but some 3 putts killed my chances for par on those. Had my first ever streak of 3 pars in a row. I had no one in front of or behind me so I got a chance to play 2 balls on some holes and do a bunch of practice chipping and putting as well. Started to run out of gas after walking 30 holes yesterday and 18 today by the last 5 holes or so otherwise I might have been able to beat the 89 which is my personal best. Tying my personal best was still cool and at a different course than where I set it.
