85OTS (par 70) 1 over nett.

Played the first 3 holes (9 hole course) in a total of +10 for the day.

Some good stretches in the middle/end of each side. Two more 3 putts on GIR. Most not-optimal.

Shot a 46 on a par 36 long 9 hole course. I missed a 5 footer on 9 for a par, which would have made it even bogey for the round, plus 3 pars in a row!

My best round of the year, and perhaps of last year as well. Irons were on, I was confident with the putter (even though I missed a short one or two), and I missed only 2 fairways with the long stick.

The tips from my "hit irons insanely fat" thread helped a lot. Keeping my weight forward especially. I hit barely any fat shots, maybe a couple.

Second round of the year and was able to scrape by with an 85. Pretty decent considering how lousy I was hitting the ball yesterday. It may have been a little better if the greens weren't playing like plinko boards.

Went down to Perry Park in Ky on Good Friday. 2nd outing, and even though my score doesnt reflect it, I was very happy with the way I was hitting the ball. Shot an overall 107. 56 on Whitetail, and 51 on Buckskin. Couple 8's on Buckskin killed me. Putting was pretty decent, mostly 2-putts, had two 4-putts that killed me. I hit my driver mostly straight most of the day, which made me very happy. Just have to adjust it back one turn now, as I have it set at -2 (have the SQ Dymo2 Str8 fit), and some of my shots went straight and left cause of it, so Im hopin to just turn it back to -1 and hopefully get back to neutral before long.

Shot 81 and was a little disappointed in the end but overall the signs are good. You see I was absolutely on fire after opening with 5 pars. Then had a sloppy double and then a birdie. Finished with 2 great scrambling Pars to finish the front nine at just +1 for a 37 and 24 Stableford points. One of my best opening nines ever. Back 9 opened with another sloppy bogey, then very solid Par, bogey and then 3 great pars. Finished Double, Double, bogey for an 81. Oh what could've been.

Interesting side note: Only hit driver once. Don't know why I carry it, I hit my 3 Wood better and more consistently than any other club. Only missed one fairway with it.

Bring on next week.

2 birdies, 5 pars, 5 bogeys, 3 doubles, 2 quads (estimated, left card at home, but the 2 birdies were the first of the year)

Best drive - 250 yards into the teeth of the wind
Best iron - PW from 110 into the wind, made the birdie putt
Best putt - 15 footer for birdie, putted fairly well all day

    • So I’ve been away from the course for quite a while now, playing maybe 5 rounds over the past 2 years. Before this layoff, I was playing to an 11.9 and my bag setup was fitting of my game. I was always an average driver at best, but being a very high spin player I was playing a Titleist TS4 with a 72g X-stiff shaft. In my recent outings, this setup is proving to be a bit too much for me. I’m a bit all over the face and have a big 2 way miss. I’m thinking of changing to something a bit more forgiving, but don’t want to increase my already high spin numbers too much. I am considering something like a Titleist TSR2 or Ping G410 Plus lofted down a bit. Also thinking of going down to a stiff shaft, but keeping it at a heavier weight or more stout profile. Thinking this might help me get back to my consistent pull-fade from the past. Any thought on whether this would work? As a cheaper option, I could go a bit older and get a Ping G LST head and put it in an extra 60g X-stiff shaft I have lying around, cutting it down an inch to help get back some consistency first. Then I could look at getting a proper fitting done again after I have gotten my swing a bit more grooved in. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
    • we have our national final open-qualifying every FEB off the tips, which is just over 7000yards the winners always around the mid 60's  ... maybe low 60's for PGA tour players ... our rough can be very unforgiving being links course hard baked sand pockets only a yard off some fairways which can be narrow in places ...
    • Stopped following.. the chasing scratch, guys ...but 102 !! from a 6HC unless it was one of the hardest courses around or very poor weather conditions.. yeah, maybe the boys need to make a new goal... I'd be pretty devastated putting anything into the 90's esp back to back... 100+ maybe drunk ?
    • I couldn't agree more with the coach ..I've been very lucky to have met a super nice new member at my club who used to be a Club pro coach + HC golfer(scratch at present) ... now retired not stressed about comps etc ..we get out least once a week ... have helped me greatly with my game, not major changes but just small changes .. I have now seen my HC fall to 7.4 from 10+ a couple of months ago.. and if I put few more decent rounds in should well test my lowest 6.7 from this time last year pre my APRIL onwards slump .. Much of what my new Golfing mate/coach has helped me with isn't so much technique (outside some chipping tech) but basics ...like "Whats your target" ??? "whats your miss" (where would you like to end up if you didn't hit your target) "Take your time don't rush... PSR same every time" slow it down( I've always had an issue if my swing goes wrong to next time try extra hard aka harder faster')so he's been getting me to hit say a 6-7iron where I would have hit a 8iron just 50-60% swing not my 80%+ efforts work with what you have my natural flight path is fade ..but many time I've been trying to force a draw etc and mostly isn't a good outcome.. ....
