84 today on a 72.9/137. 6709 yards.

First real tournament in 7-8 years for me. It was a tight course that I hadn't played before. Tons of OB and water. I played the same ball the entire round so I guess that was a win?

Tripled my 2nd hole after skulling a pitch over the green and then 3 putting it. Two other doubles and couldn't get any putts to drop. 2nd round of the year and didn't really hit any 'bad' shots besides two pitches. Just am not dialed with the irons yet but kept it in play. Lots of good shots just couldn't convert.

Played first 18 the other day and went 43/43.   Went out and played 9 holes last night and shot....43.   That is pretty much my average so I aint mad at shooting those numbers through the first couple of outings, given the crappy conditions and the winter rust.  For the 86 I shot, I felt it could have been much better as I hit 8 GIR and 8 nGIR.   Greens were so wet, shaggy and slow, it was a struggle just getting the ball to the hole.

Final tournament of the season.  Two day event but I only played the first day.  My round started so well with a shotgun start on the 15th.  Bogey, par x 2, bogey, par, bogey and then things took a turn.  3 putt double, bogey, couple of duffed shots double, bogey, 3 putt double, par, into hazard double, couple of duffed shots double, bogey, par x 3.  Without those 5 silly doubles, I would have had more than a fair chance of a trophy in the stableford event for one day play.  C'est la vie

Interesting 9 holes last night...

Hole 1 - Sliced into the tree line and hit a tree on the approach where I ended up losing yardage.

Hole 2 - took me 2 chips and 2 putts to get in the hole

Hole 4 - rinsed my approach into the pond.

With all that being said, I was +4 on those first 4 holes, but got locked in and played the final 5 holes at -1.   Ended up with a 39 (+3).

Foolish game.

44 (9 over)
Had a few pars, a few not pars.
Played out of 2 traps.

game would be much easier if my driver would go straight down the middle. But no, it wants to go right or left and never let me play out of the fairway.

Similar 9 to the previous....slow start by being +4 over first 4 holes but settled down and went +1 over the next 5.   I can live with a 41, especially with 2 penalties and a 3 putt thrown in there.

I rarely come here, it feels like bragging, but I'm going to brag anyway.  In my last two rounds I had 76 (Diff 3.3) and 74 (shorter tees, diff 4.1), and my Index has dropped a full stroke to 5.6, the lowest its been for more than a year.

Played 9 after work, fired a 36 (E), made 7 pars on the first 7 (all GIR and 2 putt), bogey & birdie on 8&9, hit 8/9 greens with 17 putts. There were a couple of birdie putts that should have fallen, but I'll never be upset with that round.

Two rounds over the last two weeks to throw in here.

5/7/25
77 on a 71.0/130. 6,239 yards.

It was a Par 71...I don't even remember much about this round. I hit the ball fairly well but wasn't super consistent with it. Had a triple on 15 when I didn't clear the trees I was trying to cut on a Par 5. Birdied the last hole after sticking a wedge to about 3 feet. That was nice.

5/15/25
75 on a 73.1/140. 6,683 yards

This was my second tournament of the year. A 75 was good enough for 1st place in the event. Tough course. I tripled my 2nd hole of the day and couldn't really get anything going but played really well on holes 8-12 getting 3 birdies. I hit a ton of bad shots but was able to focus and recover really well. Helped that I putted well and made every putt inside of 5 feet.

Played an away course and went 42/39.    Nothing special on the front but things seemed to be clicking on the back by being 3 over.    Could have easily been even on the back if I didn't (a) double bogey the Par 4, 13th from inside 100 yards and (B) not miss a 4' birdie putt on the Par 3, 16th hole.

Three rounds to update here.

5/24/25
80 on a 71.5/132. 6,551 yards.

Tournament for me and was feeling pretty good. Doubled the first hole and never really got into a rhythm. I don't know why I can't get off to good starts in tournaments this year. Doubled 9 as well after I tugged my tee shot slightly into the heather. Bogeyed the last par five after putting myself in a terrible spot with my layup to the green. It a tale of a few holes that just got out of hand.

5/25/25
96 on a 73.2/135. 6,840 yards

Well - this was the WORST round I've played in 12+ years and I didn't actually swing the club that poorly. This was a disappointing tournament performance and I was DFL - if you can imagine. I lipped 6 putts, couldn't find 4 tee balls in the heather even though we saw exactly where they landed (and bounced), and I was in a bunker 3 times in which I was so close to the lip that I had to just pop it forward into the flat part of the bunker to get a swing on the ball. I didn't hit it that poorly...but a 96 is a 96.

5/29/25
73 on a 72.1/136. 6,683 yards

What a boring round of golf. 3 putt bogey on 1, bogey on 2 after short siding myself on an approach, birdied 4 after hitting it to 20 feet on a par 5, 3 putt bogey on 9 as I was on the top shelf....then parred all the way to 18 where I birdied it. 38-35 and hit 13 greens. Got up-and-down on 4/5 opportunities but the putter just wasn't working. I had 6 putts in the 12-15 feet range and couldn't get any to drop.

Shot a 96 and my handicap still dropped after the week lol

Have not posted on this page for a while.  Today was the Friday men's shootout0  This turned out to be a new PB day with a 37 front and 39 back for a 76, beating my previous best by two strokes.  It was that rare air day where things were good all the way through the bag.  From a chip in birdie on #2 to hitting the ball to just over 5' on #9 - it was a day of staying in the moment and not letting previous hole scores get into my head.  For example the worst hole of the day - #8 was a 3 putt dbl bogie (misplayed approach put me in tougher up and down setup) that I followed with a birdie at #9.  At the turn, I wanted to stay in the moment and not let it get away.  Settled in with bogie, bogie start followed five straight pars, a bogie and finished with an up and down par.  With only 30 putts - it was a day of near miss birdies, stress free pars.

Last 2 rounds at home course were 82 and 82....consistent with the score but not consistent in how I am getting there.  A couple of holes and lack of commitment is banging me but will continue to work on it.   Example from the last 36 holes.   5 Birdies = good....6 Double Bogeys = bad.

    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
    • I had an interesting one yesterday, a local qualifier for the US Senior Open, at the Cascades Course at the Homestead.  Well, first things first, the VSGA arrnged for the officials to play the Cascades on Monday at the players' practice round rate.  Its lots of fun, rather old-style (built in the 1920s).  anyway, a player missed a short putt, and (apparently embarrassed) took a step to be ready to tap the ball back in.  The ball lipped out, and hit the player's foot.  I was nearby, and they waved me over, and asked "What do we do now?"  I was pretty sure of the ruling, but asked them to wait for a few seconds while i double-checked.  I did have it correct, even though its one of the more confusing rules in the book right now.  I'll leave the correct answer out for now, in case anyone wants to guess, or research it, and post their ruling.
    • I am going to try to try to have more intent with my shot routines. I saw this process in a YouTube video I watched last night.  Decide what you want to happen - Yardage, shot shape, start line Visualize what you want to happen - Straight forward, but one tip he suggested was while focusing the shot take in a slow deep breath (like 4 seconds in duration), hold for 1 second, then exhale slowly (like 4 seconds again). There is some evidence to show that this rhythmic style of breathing can help in calming heart rate and improving focus.  Feel what you want to happen. - Your 1-2 practice swings. Like if you need to hit your PW at 90%, feeling that.  Commit to what you want to happen on the ball.  Post-shot routine, where you either gain confidence from a good shot or learn from a mistake to foster a growth mentality. - If it was a good shot then give yourself some good vibes/feedback. If the shot didn't turn out, then access why to learn from it. I am going to add, don't get negative.
