I just bought a powerbilt long shaft 43inch putter for 25.00 new from eBay. Saw it from a guy on the PGA and wanted to try one. I won't get to play for about a week but before I do just wondering what your opinions are on them?   also they are not getting banned in the PGA. The anchoring of them will be illegal. They say it's taking too much skill out of the game

Rule 14-1b when it was proposed:

In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either “directly” or by use of an “anchor point.”

Note 1:  The club is anchored “directly” when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body, except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm.

Note 2:  An “anchor point” exists when the player intentionally holds a forearm in contact with any part of his body to establish a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club.

I have a long putter I and don't anchor it.  I do hold my bicep next to my side but my forearm is extended parallel to the ground and my hand is not  close to my body.  My putter is a "real long putter" and not one that was intended to be anchored.  Still, I get comments that I will no longer be able to use it next year.  As an FYI, I switched to a long putter when I used to run 18 holes early in the morning before playing 18 after.  I simply could not steady a normal putter for that first 18.  I have grown accustom to that long putter and wouldn't trade it for any other putter.

Coach (me) to player, "Hey, what percentage of putts left short never go in?"  Player, "Coach, 100% of putts left short never go in."  Coach (me), "Exactly."  Player, "Coach what percentage of putts that go long never go in."  LOL!

I have no problem if someone anchors for the remainder of 2015.

But I won't play with anyone that anchors in 2016. I don't play with cheaters.

You could try the "Kuchar" method. Have the grip against your lead forearm.

That's being a bit harsh. I don't really care what anyone does but obviously if they want to post scores, they can't anchor in 2016. "Cheating" would be the player anchoring and trying to "get away" with maintaining a valid handicap and/or competing in tournaments.

I didn't think that the anchoring ban was going to apply to amateurs until a few years afterwards.   2018 or something.  I know you can't anchor in anything sanctioned but as an amateur just playing their weekend events, they are not banned until a few years later.

That's a bit ridiculous in my opinion... Obviously they shouldn't be using it in a tournament or any kind of real competition, but if they are just playing a recreational round, why would you really care?

You are incorrect. January 1, 2016. It's not a Condition of Competition or anything like that, it's a Rule of Golf.

Got it, I wasn't sure that was just my understanding of the rule.  I thought there was a two year grace period of some sort
