Greetings ....

Nationwide is definitely on the side of Jack Nicklaus and his Memorial Tournament. The insurance firm has announced a renewal of its sponsorship commitment thru 2021, as well as a sizable increase of the tournament purse -- going from $ 6.2 million in 2015 ($1.116 million-1st prize) to $ 8.5 million in 2016 (at least $1.53 million-1st prize; article says $1.615 million) .

The purse increase puts the Memorial equal with the Fed Ex Cup playoff events. Only the three in-the-USA WGC events, the Players Championship and the four Grand Slam Majors offer higher purses.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport.

I have no problem with Nationwide funding a golf tournament just as long as my monthly premium does not go up to pay for it. :-P

It's a great event, hosted by the GOAT, so it seems like it would be in Nationwide's best interests to stay on board. Other than the 4 majors, I think the Memorial tournament is right up there with the Players as a must-watch event every year.

Tiger hosts an event in D.C. ;-)

The Memorial is great event and well-run... I got to see the finals back in 2004. Nationwide is based in Columbus and always supports the city-wide events, like the Columbus Marathon amongst others.

True, but I think you'd agree that the Memorial is a more prestigious event with a better field.

Somehow the smiley face I entered came up as a question mark. I removed it.

Tiger knows. He's won it five times.

Absolutely...he's a great player. Do you think he'll win it again?

Not sure. He needs to get healthy first.

That's the big question, isn't it?

I see you're from Boston. I grew up in Norwood, and most of my family lives there, in Arlington, and in New Hampshire. I was just back there about 6 weeks ago for a visit. I've lived in northern Calif. for 35 years, and could never live in New England again...too hot and humid in summer, too much snow in winter...you know. I'm still a big Red Sox and Patriots fan, though.
