Talk to somebody on the staff about your skill level, if you like some action (or not) and if you walk or ride. They will be able to at least get you started with a decent group because they know their audience. Sign up for tournaments.

They can be very cliquish and filled with politics. Just a heads up going in.

For me, I joined a club when I just took the game up and played off 28. I was terrified at the thought of playing with guys who are off low figures and that'd I'd hold them up etc. I've only came across one guy who was rude the whole round and made it clear I shouldn't be in his group but every other low handicapper (the lowest being 3) has been great and friendly. I've came down from 28 to 13 in 3 seasons and a lot has came from the club pro lessons and the guys I've played with in a medal. I've managed to scoop 3 medals and a club trophy in that time which has helped me to see my game to be as good if not better than some of theirs. Get stuck in ASAP and you won't regret it.
