I spoke with a therapist for a while specifically about how to not blow up my marriage but deal with her.   In no un-certain terms she told me what I was dealing with was extreme and that if we could, my wife and I should move to get away from a continuing problem such as her, and just get the toxic person out of our life.   She jokingly said that if she had a patient like her, she could probably retire.   She has a lot of issues.

But funny story...

One day my FIL comes up to my wife and was telling her the normal stuff (they haven't spoken for a week, or she was being really horrible) and he goes "She's losing it.   Really!   She is starting to lose her mind.   She yelled at me for the same thing four times last night."   So my wife doesn't say anything and then he gives us this gem.   "She's so bad that I just look at her and wait for the drool to run down her fat chin".

That's a husband, talking about the woman he married.   Yeesh!

When my wife was pregnant we bought a portable video recorder.  One of the small handhelds, nothing elaborate.   The first time we filmed something my in-laws got into an argument over why the ice cube tray didn't work in their refrigerator.   It hasn't worked since my wife was in college.

I did use it one Christmas.  My MIL said something along the lines of she didn't want to be on video.   My FIL said "the camera doesn't want you either, believe me!"

Gone from the funny to absolute horror.   My wife took the kids down to my in-laws yesterday.   Aside from them fighting, she saw my father-in-laws TV room which usually has the door closed.   Filthy, with stacks and stacks of mail and bills piled up, so much clutter it looked like an episode of Hoarders.   He had a path carved out to his chair.   And a rifle.  A freaking rifle laying out.   In no un-certain terms is she leaving their house when our kids are there anymore.   And I am contacting a therapist to try and help me figure out the best way to approach this situation, including trying to get my wife to see their mental illnesses and hopefully they can get some help too.

Thanks for the kind words from people here, either here or in PMs.   It would just be wrong for me to laugh this off or make fun of them when it's just so twisted.   So my posting on this topic is finished.

My Ex MIL had lost her mind -- would get suckered by any telemarketer; watched Fox News and was paranoid of everything, told my Ex to get mace to protect her from me even though the Ex and I lived in the same house during the divorce and after the divorce. We got along fine ... just not marriage material. Yes, Ex got the mace and found no excuse to use it ...  nutz.

    • Lazarus Irons....top notch and way cheaper than the big brands.
    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
