  1. 1. What do you use to line up putts?

    • A logo on the ball
      32
    • A line I've drawn on it
      36
    • A spot in front of the ball on the green
      24
    • Nothing - I just hit it

That really is interesting, but does this mean that manufacturers claims that a ball is longer etc etc are also false ! Must admit that I stopped buying ProV because of the info re needing high swingspeed to get advantage and switched to Titleist SoLo which of course claim that its good for slow swingspeeds. I dont see any difference between any of them and for example NXT Tour, Maxfli Rev Ext. My swingspeed off the driver is only 87 mph and I am getting about 250/270 yards. I am using a Cleveland Launcher Comp with the standard Cleveland Fujikura R shaft. Recently I went to the Titleist launcher day and tried their new driver with numerous shafts and none could match my accuracy and distance with the Cleveland.

I line up the logo with the target. Works well for me. When teeing off I dont position the ball in any which way.

"Puttin' for bird" is different than "makin' birds". I'm sure he meant lining up with a mark on the ball. At least I hope so.

Interesting, I just posted a thread about the Check-and-go gadget.
(marks the center of the ball with a line around the entire ball)

It has not impressed me.

I go with line it up and hit it!

I line it up and hit it. It always takes too long to line up the exact line on the logo or a drawn-on line (and by too long I mean 2-3 minutes). Besides, if it shifts in the wind or when you stand up, you're screwed.

If you look at the callaway ball (my avatar), I make that arrow or "V" looking thing point into the cup or where I'm aiming. I don't know if that's what they intended, but it works well!

I use that goofy check and go. I'm not sure if it works or not but I'll put the line on there any way so I just use that to mark the equator very light then mark a little one inch line and rub of the rest of the equator line out. for some reason it screws with my eyes optically. it doesn't look straight.

Ditto - just got one last week. I have always used the "Pro V1" line or whatever is on the ball in that position. I think I am gonna like the line I draw on there.

I used to put a line on the ball all the time and then for some reason stopped. My putting went to crap!!! I have been fighting my putting all year then I played with a friend I hadnt played with for a while and he asked, "Why dont you put the line on anymore?". Dunno!!!

Anyway I started again and my putting has improved greatly.

New rule for me: Dont be lazy, put the line on.

I dont use the line to aim exactly at my line, I use more for a general idea of where I want to start the ball rolling.

    • Day 147: more mirror work. Trying to hone in the backswing stuff real nice.
    • If I was going to try to help someone fix a low snap hook without actually seeing their swing I would have to tell them to break down the problem into pieces. See if you can fix the "low" part of the problem first. A low ball flight tells me you are probably swinging level or hitting down on the ball instead of hitting up on it. Try teeing the ball higher than you are comfortable and put the ball up in your stance a little further up than comfortable...try putting it off your left heal or even the left toe. Try to feel like your club head is swinging up through impact. Try that first and see if it gets you to a high snap hook or a high pull hook.    If you want to address the hook part of the swing you are going to have to look at two areas of the swing as well as your concept of what the arms and hands do through impact. I love talking through this stuff with people but I'll only go into it further if you really want to go down that rabbit hole...you would have to say so. Swing well my friend!
    • Hello everyone! I haven't been on a golf forum in many years...since the old 4gea days if I remember right. Love to talk swing mechanics and hope to meet up for some range time and golf with others if possible. Been in Houston for a year now but haven't managed my way out on the course anywhere. I hope to change that in 2025. Hit 'em hard everybody!
    • Day 6: Worked with 6-iron, same stuff; neutral grip, centered turn. Feeling a bit lost right now, but have a lesson booked in about 10 days.
    • Day 222 (11 Dec 24) - weather came in about midday….son had an ortho appt mid morning….able to get in some work with the 54 and varied pitches. Used the tulip tree as the obstacle to clear….was able to work the face - normal face with the longer distances to more open with the tight short straight up and downs.
