During the very high winds we had a few weeks ago, actually broke the wooded 50' poles that held the safety nets up, total devastation, it looked like a hurricane hit the place..Why they used all wood is kinda foolish, metal holds up much better, but then we don't get 65 mph winds that often. Now, I have to drive 12 miles to next nearest range..meh. Once we get our new pup trained, I'll be playing more and driving less. Did any other range, or course suffer major damage in So. Cali..?

We had the same thing happen at Altadena golf course a couple years back. They still kept the range open, but limited us to hitting 150 yard clubs or less. Now, they have tall steel poles on the corners and replaced the smaller ones with new wooden ones.

The winds were not that strong this time around for us.

They were for us..The poles by the way are, or were the size of telephone poles, and they broke off about 10-12' above ground, iirc, there were 8 of them and all 8 broke.

Yeah, did you not see the end of the Farmers Insurance Open on that Monday?  Several Eucalyptus trees were toppled across the course, including one right across a fairway that they had to spend hours chopping up before they could restart play, and they didn't allow fans on the course at all that day because of the lingering danger.

We had those same high winds. Only damage I saw was in my own game. :-P

About 10 years ago or so a hurricane came through Pinellas county and snapped the metal poles across from where I work.  The range had to close.

I don't think they removed the nets prior to the storm.  I had heard that the nets caused enough resistance to topple the poles.  The poles looked like the same as those that replace the wooden telephone poles.

    • Better stuff today.  Backswing mapping, watching the club go back to where I want it, pause and feel the position, take it back to address, and repeat while looking at the ball.  Some feels I am playing around with.  1) Feeling like my right hand is pushing out away from me to keep the right arm extended. Really actively resist the momentum of the swing to collapse the right arm. I can't do this early because I will just push my hands outward. It's like A2.5 to A3.5.  2) Feeling a bit less flex in the left wrist at A3. I can't do this much or I will just roll the club inside. I caught myself doing this a few times and stopped.  3) Like above, feeling the overall body position at A3. I ideally want my swing to be A3.5 in length. Downswing, I got to really feel the pause again.  I also was doing some downswings while looking at the club at A3-A4 just to make sure it was going down and not out. I kind-of can hit the ball flush while not even looking at the ball. 🤣 Yea, trying to disconnect the hands down and tilting back to lower the club is difficult.  Also, even if I get my hands down better, I end up hitting straight hooks or flipping straight cuts. The club doesn't come in flush a lot. I definitely feel a flip at the ball the ball most of the time.
    • Day 4 March 15th, 2025 hit about 20 golf balls, a lot of non-hitting practice. Backswing length to A3 feels, downswing stuff.
    • Take this with a grain of salt but, when I see high speed/high leverage freewheeling swings like yours (from your swing video), it makes me think that considering the combo of outward and downward pressure required, you might not be applying sufficient downward pressure through impact. Tendency is more out than down. A good analogy is keeping an inflated ball pushed down underwater in a pool. I think it is the hardest force/pressure component to master.  It's a guess. I also think back pain is a symptom, theoretically speaking.
    • Heron Ridge in Virginia Beach yesterday, hole #7 for those in the area.  Would this box be considered an immovable obstruction with free relief?  (It was in my back swing as the hole was to the left of my ball in the picture.)  You can see that it sits just off the cart path.  How about all the mud and tire tracks?  When I addressed the ball my feet were sinking in wet mud so I took relief for standing water.  Right or wrong?  Thoughts?
