Extended Clubs???

Club fitters,

I wanted to get some expert insight.  I use extended clubs because I am very tall..  I am at 1.75 over standard.  This makes the clubs incredibly heavy.  It becomes more of an issue with the wedges.  Sometimes its like swinging a shovel.  Setting aside any issue with the length, lets assume that the length is a perfect fit, what are options to deal with on the weight issue? I am kicking around the idea of going to a graphite shaft in wedges. I am a 1 handicap and with a high swing speed.  Driver is around 113mph.  Thoughts?

 I don't think you're going to like graphite with a high swing speed.  If you're talking irons, you can get lite iron shafts in maybe an X flex.  I have about 105 MPH driver SS.  I go with stiff for everything.  I like a heavier shaft because I have a smoother swing.  Too light and I tend to jerk the downswing.

Being a 1 HCP, it's time you became a club building ho.

VG offers one option which could work well.

At +1.75 inches, you have added about 10.5 swingweight points to the club's original design. (Basic formula: + 0.5" adds 3 swingweight points to club's feel).

It would be helpful to know the clubhead models and current shafts you use in your bag. Clubfitters have equations they can use to determine how much a lighter or heavier shaft will affect swingweight. (Head weight and grip weight also influence swingweight).

Before you try the X-flex, find a heavier grip and try it out on your 5i and 8i. A heavier grip might help counterbalance the club's weight.

I currently have Titleist 710 AP1s with Dynamic Gold s300 shafts.

I already use lamkin crossline mid size grips with 2 wraps

I think you could counterbalance your swing weight with something like this: http://boccierigolf.com/secret-grip/

I don't know if it would work for you, but who knows. It might help with the wedges.

@DrvFrShow hit the nail right on the head, the Secret Grips are going to bring the swingweight down, because they have a counterweight in the butt of the grip. I'd play them if they only came in red... 

@calcnation, I'm 6'5" and I only play +1/2"... I'm just spitballing here, but you probably have shorter arms than I do, I actually have short legs for someone as tall as I am, i have a very long torso..
