Hello,

UK here....

First post! hello all...

A little background, been playing a year or so... Really got the bug!! At the driving range pretty much every single lunchtime at work.
Currently playing a burrowed set of Titleist 704 CB, Love them! BUT... they are not mine, and as much as i like them, they are not very forgiving for myself at this time.

Now, i am looking at purchasing some second hand Titleist AP1 710, as im hoping they will have a similar feel(loosely speaking) with a little more forgiveness. Essentially i want the feedback, but a little less harsh on the wrists ahah.

The clubs i have found look good, and visually i cannot see any problem with them. But i am no titleist pro..

The seller has been brilliant with providing all information he can and sending me any photos i want, but still i am not sure.

Reasons being 1, he cannot find any serial numbers? 2, (this could be normal) The sticker says assembled in china, head china, shaft japan?

If you have some knowledge or insight or just thoughts on these please let me know.

Thanks!!

p.s. £120

First off Welcome to the site.

I usually go by the old "if it seems too good to be true then it usually is!".

The problem with both classified and online auction sites is that there are a lot of fakes being advertised and its the big premium brands that are popular for this (Titleist, Ping, TM etc.). If you are willing to spend a little more then there are a couple of sets on golfbidder.co.uk that will be genuine (all clubs are checked by experts and serials matched with the OEM's). Check this link

http://www.golfbidder.co.uk/product/649198/Titleist_AP1_710.html

I bought my Wilson Staff's from here and they even let you try them and send them back if you dont loke them. Good company IMO.

These are on for £168 and in "fair" condition so not sure how they compare to the set for £120.

Now im not saying the set you are looking at is fake but just use caution if buying from the classifieds/auction sites as once bought if they are fake getting your money back may be difficult/

When buying used clubs, I usually check the OEM site first, then do a google search for images. For the 710 AP1:

http://www.titleist.com/golf-clubs/irons/ap1-710

https://www.google.com/search?q=titleist+AP1+710&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjK38OXkrHLAhVDBywKHdduDugQ_AUICCgC&biw=1536&bih=758

We also have a review of the 710 AP1 here. So compare the images. The serial number is on the back of the hosel.

E-bay is also a good source for pricing. Don't look at the "Buy it Now" pricing as an indicator. Look at the auction pricing. A quick look showed a set of 4-PW for $175 US with 9 hours left, so £120 is not too low.

As for China, the parts are made their but sometimes the set is assembled in the US. For the UK, it may be assembled in China.

Lastly, that set is cosmetically beat up, so it will sell for less. However, it will still play great. You could ask the seller for the serial numbers too.

If you're going the second-hand route, you'll save a ton of cash. Why not invest a little of that cash in bumping up your budget to ensure you get the real deal. IOW, spend the extra $40 or so to get the clubs from a reputable seller, or even better, go with Callaway or Taylormade preowned sites. You're guaranteed to get authentic equipment and they tend to be in better condition. Callaway even regrips all the preowned clubs they sell, that's worth the extra $40-50 right there!

Yours in earnest, Jason.

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
