I've been Playing Golf for: 8 years
My current handicap index or average score is: 12+, it's actually gotten worse it used to be a 9 then I started trying to "fix" my swing.
My typical ball flight is: Push / Fade / Fat / Thin
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push, improve contact

Videos:

This is me in my yard just hitting some whiffle balls. A few things I'm working on is really trying to eliminate the hands. I read that it's the shoulders that open square and close the club face throughout the swing. Problem is, I know that I'm still handsy and armsy through out, I feel tension almost constantly. My problem I've had for my entire golf career here is an underneath swing plane and miss to the right and I just simply have run out of ideas to try and fix this and get on plane. It can't be that hard, right? Is there any hope for me here? I'm all out of ideas.

Many elements of your swing are really good. It is sorta hard to tell if you are on plane or below the plane because your videos are exactly in the right spot.

Have you tried just strengthening your grip? It is pretty weak.

To be honest, I've weakened it from about a week or so ago. It was a bit stronger, I may need to go back to that.

The amount it's turned isn't really the issue as much as it looks "palmy" in the left hand. More here.

At impact. Look at Key #2 in this thread.

Like @mchepp said, lots of good stuff happening in your swing. Definitely need to work on your weight shift. It's very hard to keep swinging outwards when your weight is hanging back. Try stomping on an imaginary gas pedal (or crushing an empty beer can) with your lead foot to initiate the downswing. For some people that image can really help get the hips and weight transferring forward. This will also help eliminate the fat shots.

Hard to be 100% certain due to the camera angle, but I'd say he needs to get his weight WAY more forward at impact.

Here's an update after working on my grip a little and 3-4 good range sessions working on getting my weight shifted. I know I probably still require a TON of work getting those hips laterally shifted but just wanting to see if it looks like I'm trending in the right direction. I've gained a horrible push / slice though. Not sure what's causing that. Any other glaring deficiencies in this swing?

Nice swing although I can see clearly in new down the line video that your face is shut going back and your plane is still underneath at impact leaving the face open resulting in pushes, smothered shots and ugly toe hits. The good news is your very close the bad news is your wrong in thinking you shouldn't use your hands in fact the hands are the core of your swing. Your swing is a bit smothered you stand a little to close the the ball and your hands are to low at address. Think of address as impact this is how you will return the head at impact. You need to fully rotate your hips through impact and fire through with your hands and arms in a free motion either slightly across the line or a hair on the inside this is what the pros do. Your right knee is a bit locked on the backswing as well it's causing a restricted swing and reverse pivot a bit. The cure is a better grip, stand up taller and 2 inches farther from the ball and possible opening your stance a bit to free up your right arm. Just before impact your right arm is stuck it's causing the push look at these photos to grip_all3_720px.jpg.27b4cbadd293537097bfemulate

    • Day 35 (6 Jan 26) - Got opportunity to play today, opted to mix it up - pulled Driver, 3w and 4h, keeping 7w, 5-Pw, 50 and 55 wedges and putter.  Played a set of tees up as well - goal: focus on the irons, especially the scoring clubs.  Had one of the sessions in a while (3 over 39 front, 6 over 42 back (a couple late round poor shot choices)).  Had a blast working a 10 club setup…
    • Day 17 - 2026-01-06 Mix of mat and net work, same focus on trail side and hands. Mirror work again later in the day.
    • Hi all. I have sought permission from admin to post this here. First, here's a quick link to my products on TST, which a few of the mods have been road-testing...  Most of you would be aware of the import tariffs imposed on importers to the US circa September last year. Prior to their introduction, I was selling a decent number each week into the 'States. Since the tariffs came in - which added ~AU$60 to the total cost of getting them over there - sales have dropped to virtually nil. I think fear of the tariffs is the biggest part rather than the actual cost increase, despite me declaring everywhere on my site that we pay the tariffs and have successfully got every order into the US without any problems since. What is still unknown to most US consumers is that these tariffs will DOUBLE in February as Australia Post will no longer be allowed to offer "private" rates, they all change to "commercial". I do indeed think that this will make the products uncompetitive to ship there. So what's the backstory?  I'm a small Aussie business, not some corporate juggernaut. I invented these products - not a reseller for someone else. The import tariffs double in February, so add another ~15% to the total cost. If you want StanceMate alone I can do a super deal on a run-out model PREVIEW HERE (note you cannot purchase this yet. I think the shipped price will be about AU$110 inc Shipping (tariffs included). If you want to reduce the cost of the whole Stryper Plus Bundle I can swap the runout StanceMate to reduce the overall price by AU$60. These work EXACTLY as the newer version, just not as premium quality in the way the finish is achievbed in production) IMPORTANT: All import tariffs are PRE-PAID at my end, and clears customs no problem. I've sent a half dozen since October with every one delivered. NB: I'm not here to get into the politics of the decisions on tariffs, so let's not go down that road. It is what it is! So StanceMate to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - about US$70 Bundle to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - US$240 Bundle (with version 1 StanceMate) to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - US$200 Cheers Corbs
