Because I play a lot in the Pacific Northwest I can recommend a few courses in that neck of the woods.

Old Works in Anaconda, MT (near Butte) and Circling Raven near Coeur d'Alene, ID are both awesome courses and green fees are well under $100 in prime time. They are a little out of the way, but definitely worth the trip.

Spokane, WA is also an excellent destination for quality courses and good value. Indian Canyon is the city's most beloved track and it cost me less than $30 the last time I played it. It is filled with old-school charm, an illustrious history and tons of character. Hangman Valley, Meadow Wood, Liberty Lake (newly remodeled), and The Creek at Qualchan are also solid courses and will cost you about the same amount.

North of the border, The Meadows at Pemberton and Squamish Valley are fantastic alternatives to the renowned (and very expensive) courses in and around Whistler, BC. They offer the same incredible views and fantastic conditioning as their flashy counterparts but green fees peak at about C$60. To me they were every bit as enjoyable as Nicklaus North, Whistler GC, Big Sky and Chateau Whistler and about 1/3 of the cost.

The Cranbrook/Kimberley area of British Columbia is also an ideal location for great golf on a budget. Located about 3 hours north of Spokane, the area boasts 7 phenomenal courses and all of them are under C$100 to play in peak season. Wildstone (Gary Player's only Canadian design), Trickle Creek and Shadow Mountain are the most noteworthy, but Bootleg Gap and St. Eugene Resort are also fun. They all offer SPECTACULAR mountain views and conditions are pristine, so don't leave this little piece of heaven off your "bucket list" if you hit up the Pacific Northwest.

Hope this is of interest!

I've heard good things about George Wright in Boston. I haven't played there because it is in the city and traffic is tough. I may make an effort this year.

I don't put any stock in these types of lists.  Matt has not visited or played every golf course in the USA.  How the eff does he think he can select the best value courses?  And what are those rates?  Resident or nonresident?  Weekend or weekday?  With cart or without?  In season or off season?  Is the course packed or can you play in under 4 hours?

Coronado is the only one I've played on the list.  It is a great price located in a pricey city. It's hard to get tee times at that price, they have advanced reservations at a higher price The best features of the course is some great views of San Diego downtown across the bay.  Other than that, the course is a nice muni.  In other words not that special.

It is nowhere near as nice as the course in the picture above.

@No Mulligans, that course is Shadow Mountain in Cranbrook BC Canada. It really is quite something! I have attached a few more pictures of it, and one from St. Eugene Resort just down the road. I tell ya - you've gotta hit the Canadian Rockies on your next golf trip, my friend! Especially with the exchange rate being what it is right now. Less than $80 US to play these courses right now! (Hahaha sorry for the shameless plug, but I am lucky to call this place my home)

    • Ahh the old classic "nobody agrees with me so I don't want to talk about it anymore"
    • @anaveragehacker, you’ve been ignorant this whole time and now you’re being disrespectful. Not a great combo. You asked what the rules were and we told you. You complained about them and we told you why they were the way they are. The “who is the committee?” Question has been answered a few times. Dave and I are Rules Officials and the other people replying know the rules far better than you, so the fact that we are all disagreeing with you should say something. this thread is going nowhere and your original question has been answered several times.
    • What is this committee I keep hearing about? We’re a small league playing at a county course. And these are temporary issues that may be gone in a day or two. In any case, I wish more people agreed with me. It seems that trying to convince golfers to modernize rules is like trying to change the Bible. You guys are so serious it kind of proves my point. Other sports make adjustments for  field conditions etc during lower level play. This isn’t life and death here, it’s sport. No need to keep arguing. I have my opinion and you have yours.
    • Yeah, I agree that some of the charts are hard to make sense of. That short game chart is showing how often a short game shot ends up within a certain distance. The orange bar is all shots, the green bar is for shots within 25 yards, and the blue bar is for shots between 25 and 50 yards. I just play around with all of it and will figure it out. I would suggest just diving in and see what jumps out and work on that.
    • PGA Tour players weight shift to their lead foot way sooner and to a higher % than amateur. I would say it is something like close to 90% lead foot at impact for PGA Tour player. For Amateurs it could be under 50%. You need to get the weight transfer over more and sooner. You can't rely on the feeling of finishing on the lead foot as validation you did so.
