Can't believe Fox won't find someplace to fit in Tirico at the Open - he's had plenty of experience over at ESPN/ABC with golf and while his style is a bit more "cheerleader" than some of us like, he is a comfortable and familiar voice for those who have watched the NBA and NFL where he has also done events.

Really looking forward to Azinger as the main color guy - he knows his stuff, knows what it takes to compete and seems to do his homework.  Not sure what to make of Curtis Strange as a reporter on-course - I get it that he won two Opens and can probably provide us with some insights from the course aboutn conditions and such, but wonder about his ability to get inside the head of the contenders as they play the final holes as Curtis always seemed to be the kind of guy that wasn't willing to share his emotions or insights after his own rounds.

Wondering if it might be Custer's Last Stand for Sonders at Fox as they try to find someplace where she can fit in - I wonder if she doesn't do well at this year's Open if Fox will look for some way to drop her altogether (if her contract will allow it).  She might have already been at her ceiling on the Golf Channel so if Fox casts her off perhaps she might have to go back there to keep in the public view or risk slipping out of sight.

They'll find a way to fit him in. But he's not gonna take over for Dan Hicks. The hard part is NBC is pretty loaded esp now with David Feherty on their team and David Duval waiting in the wings for Johhny Miller. The only person I could do away with is Peter Jacobson. But I gaurantee you they'll use Tirico in some way, shape or form....possibly as a host or a second announcer to give Hicks breaks.

A few other comments on Fox:

1. Scott McCarron and Juli Inkster were terrific - gave us accurate reporting of what was going on with each group they were with in a very professional manner

2. Liked Zinger and Fax - good insider information regarding the course and the players

3. Joe Buck - send him back to baseball and football - no shame in that as even Vin Scully couldn't hack it doing golf commentary

4. Holly Sonders - will they ever find anything meaningful for her to contribute to the telecasts other than to show how much off-season training she has been doing in search of the "Kim Kardashian Look"?

I agree, Buck just isn't right for golf, maybe with more practice but he was just slightly better than last year.

As for Holly, she's under utilized, she could do much more for Fox than she has the last two years.  The way she stands side ways to show off her curves in ultra tight dresses is just awkward and forced.  I'd much rather see her in fashionable golf outfits interviewing golfers on the course.

I just can't listen to Joe Buck with that ridiculous voice, I guess it works for football because the testosterone is flowing but for golf it's just silly, enough with trying to make golf more chesty.

The coverage was great, I'm loving FOX for that, the limited commercials, the ProTracer that shows the ball 100' higher than it really is, every camera angle, it's like being there.

But I can easily turn the sound off, I just don't need to hear anyone talking about things, they're useless IMO.

Holly would be welcomed back to Golf Channel with open arms by this fan, I loved watching her legs in the morning, she's still hot IMO.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
