Thanks to consumers buying air jordans, companies of all shapes and sizes started charging at least 100 dollars for their products. ( If they'll pay 100 for shoes, why not 100 for my product? ) Pxg apparently sold their first full set of clubs for 5,000 bucks. If consumers flock to this, maybe we can all start paying a grand for sunglasses and other retailed items. This is absurd but who knows? Maybe itll catch on. Isnt golf (and life) expensive enough!?

Miura, Honma, Epon and other Japanese manufacturers were charging a premium for golf clubs long before PXG went into business.  Scotty Cameron is considered expensive but when you look at some custom putters that Bettinardi and others make it's not that expensive.

Businesses have a good sense for how much people are willing and able to spend on non-essential items.  PXG will appeal to the high end golfer who wants custom shafts, fittings and can afford to pay for it.  Callaway and TaylorMade aren't going to try to compete with PXG.

Mercedes Benz makes $500,000 cars and $35,000 cars, there's nothing wrong with more options.

There have been other boutique clubmakers who have come and gone in the last several years, touting a craft that was lost when big companies and advanced technology entered the market. PXG is receiving a lot of attention because unlike those other companies it signed a full tour staff to play their equipment and wear their logo from day one. This is a company founded by a billionaire who decided to start manufacturing golf clubs for fun; I doubt PXG is concerned about turning a profit anytime soon.

Reminds me of a guy I once worked with who wondered why Cadillacs weren't priced the same as Cavaliers! Couldn't get the idea through his head!

$5k for a full set of custom fitted clubs, not just irons or woods, doesn't bother me much at all. The fact that my local golf stores only carry the small bag of tee's (75 count) and want to charge $7.00 plus tax for it? That gets to me.
