Hi there,

I've been using my phone with swing by swing installed for yardages etc but it tends to hammer the battery and its just a bit of a faff sometimes going in and out of it when the screen shuts down etc.

I've been looking at a dedicated device and wondered if people had thoughts on the ones I'm looking at or any other recommendations.

I'm not really after a large handheld device or a range finder, the current list is as follows:

Bushnell Neo xs
Bushnell Ghost
Garmin S2

Budget wise I really don't want to go over 150 pounds if possible. It doesn't have to specifically be a watch just not a large handheld.

Any thoughts issues with these or any other suggestions?

Thanks

I really like my Garmin S20.

If your happy with your phone app just get a battery booster for your phone. Pretty inexpensive

I'm looking at the new Leupold GX-2i2.   The slope feature can be turn on/off within the device.  It is new this year but waterproof and compares to the Bushnell V3.

I've decided up Leupold but debating between the GX-2i2 and the GX-4i2.    I don't play in tournaments (yet) and I do want the slope feature.   Both have great reviews and when I've talked to the people at Golfsmith, they said they sell more Bushnell but recommend the Leupold brand.

+1. Would like to switch from using the phone to a dedicated, small device. Any recommendations for something that fits these needs ...

  1. GPS yardage with pre-programmed courses
  2. Shot tracking per club (preferably with software/website that does avg distances per club)
  3. Scorecard
  4. Hassle-free as possible. Want to spend as much time as possible playing not messing with tech
  5. Small as possible

Thanks so much!

In case you're still looking, I'd recommend the Neo XS - does everything I'd want it to and it's always spot on when you match it up to the on course markers and sprinkler heads. Something like 30 000 courses pre-loaded, but more available to download (as well as the same courses but with updates) and if you email them, they'll map any new course in under a week. Enough battery for two rounds as well :-). Doesn't do shot tracking, but if you combine it with Game Golf, you have everything you could need.

Edit: Forgot the other major benefit which was the fact that there's no yearly subscription fee. Just the one off cost of the watch.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

Still have a neo x -for my skill level and the courses I play, a distance to back middle and front watch is all I need. It's got some hazard distances, length of shot measure but never use them. Good battery life.
