They always show pictures of the IO courses when it's sunny. I wonder what percentage of days it is cloudy or rainy there?

Luiten in a nice pairing with Knox and Jaidee. Could be interesting, Luiten had good perfomances on the Scottish Open (top 5) and Welsh Open (win); let's do the same at the Irish Open :-)

Right now it's cloudy with a bit of rain as well. The upcoming days rain is forecast pretty much the whole time.

97% rain or cloud. It's very green!

They are off and running at the K club.

Only 2 Americans participating. I.M. Daniel and David Lipsky.

Lowery,Kaymer,Knox,Luiten,Dubuisson and The Mechanic among the first to go out.

Kaymer was since early in the round at +1 for a long time, but back to back birdie/eagle raises him to T2 for now at -2. Luiten played 15 holes so far, scored par on all of them. Guessing that's not so bad, difficult course and circumstances.

Should have kept my mouth shut; a triple bogey and a downfall on the leaderboard. Kaymer and Lowry going strong.

Course is playing tough, most players are over par.

Kaymer and Ross Fisher in with 69's. Best of the day so far.

Mcilroy just about to go out.

Joost finishes with a 75,shame about the triple, par would have been a good score.

Just watched Willett address the ball and it moved slightly as he pushed against the grass in the rough... 12.17 pm on his approach shot... 13th hole om Golf channel... Someone else must have seen it on TV...

Willett 65,Mcilroy 67

1st and 2nd respectively after the first round.Great stuff.

Fisher,Kaymer and Kjeldsen tucked in close behind them.

Yep, glad to see Rory light it up, missed a 2-footer for par tho, he does tend to lose focus a few times a round.  I missed a 3-footer for birdie the other day but I'm like 1,000,000 in the OWGR.

The course is boring.  I get excited to watch the Irish and Scottish Opens because I look forward to the links courses.  The K Club is an OK course, I guess but when I go to Ireland, I won't play it.  I'd rather play a no-name links course.

Last time I was in Ireland I played Bushfoot,Ardmore and Ballycastle. All Northen Ireland. Some super views at the turn on Ballycastle,on clear days you can see the Scottish coast.

Ardmore is a very dificult links course where Graeme Mcdowell grew up.

Oh man, my dream.  Went to Scotland a few years back and played St Andrews and Carnoustie but really the highlight of the trip were my rounds at Elie, Balcomie, and Lundin Links.  Phenomenal courses no one here knows about.  Probably much like the 3 you mention.  I'm putting all 3 of those N Ireland courses on my list.  Hell, I might not travel out of N Ireland.

Good scores from Willet and McIlory, but to be honest; the course played a whole lot easier in the afternoon (especially the wind). Hopefully the same today to make it somewhat more like a level playing field. On the other hand, that's part of links golf. Curious what today will bring.

Interestingly, the scoring average in the morning was a full shot better than it was in the afternoon.

I'm very surprised to hear that. After the morning only a handful players were under par, and the top scores all came from the afternoon groups (van Zyl, McIlroy, Willet, Shinkwin), while the worst scores of the day (Siem, Brady, Busby, Brady, McGovern and Jeong at +8/+9 and higher) all came from the morning groups. If you checked I believe when you say the average was better, but am quite surprised by that considering looking at the best and the worst scores and how they are devided. Aditionally more than 40 players on the right side of the cut (of the aprox. 75) allready are in play now (meaning: they were in the afternoons groups yesterday).
