Today I spent about 2 hours working on my lag putts and discovered on my longer putts the ball skips.  It literally sounds like a rock getting skimmed off the surface of a lake.  I have used an odyssey 2 ball for the last 10 years.  I kept trying to change my stroke but it seems the ball kept knuckling and skipping then rolling.  Are there are putting tips that can stop this or is it time for a new putter ?

Sounds like you hit down or up on the ball.

Here's some good info on the speed of the putter at/near impact. Might be a good jumpstart as you search for better technique.

If you get a lot of skipping you're probably not hitting up slightly with barely a little positive loft.

Read the "DO NOT accelerate" link by iacas that was posted by Randall T. It's a great exposition on putting in general and lag putting in particular. I get the skidding lag putt when I don't take a long enough backswing and, knowing I won't get the ball there, try to rescue the putt with a strong, right hand "hit"! I accelerate into the ball, it skids and skips all over, and my distance control is horrible. When I'm putting well the best word I have to describe it is "smooth". My putting stroke is smooth!
