I have a hook up with a Cleveland rep and I can get their stuff pretty cheap. My wife has told me that I can go ahead and get something for Christmas. So, what one piece of equipment would you suggest I buy?

Note: I already have a HiBoreXL Driver and I have irons that I like (Titleist 775).

So, any advice?

I've never tried their wedges, but I can't think of anyone who has been disappointed by their wedges. What's your current wedge make-up (including PW loft) and ownership (even if not in bag)? Is there a loft missing that might allow you to try another configuration? Consider buying such a wedge. I doubt you could go wrong with Cleveland wedges.

I love my 588 DSG's. IMO, Cleveland wedges are on the same level as Vokeys (ie second to none).

Even though it looks like you dont use a fairway wood, I would try the hibore fairway wood. It is a very nice fairway wood. There wedges are really nice too.

Perhaps their Tour iron set in Project X whatevr suits your game . These are one of the Most game inspiring irons available in the market . Try them out you wont be SAD . These were part of the last design done by Roger prior to his moving in to Callaway R&D; .

Noticed in your signature line that you only have one single wedge... a 54.10.

I would suggest getting a say 58* or so wedge....with more bounce. That bounce (which is the key) will save you strokes out of the sand and out of trouble lies. I know that wedges don't cost much and you won't save much....but still...the recommendation is to save strokes.

As for Cleveland wedges...I would go with the CG10s. I found the material is much softer...and should give better play.

Looking at your set the only thing that I think you could improve is to get a HiBore fairway wood, probably 15*.

CG12 wedges along with new irons, hybrid, and a staff bag. Throw in a towel, umbrella, logo hat and a playing lesson with Vijay and you will be all set.

Seriously, what do you need? A matched set of wedges would be cool with me.

Thanks for the replies. I am happy with my two wedges, I kind of like that they don't match. My irons run from 4-gw, so, the gap wedge is out.

I think I am leaning towards getting either a hibore fairway wood or a Never Compromise putter. (I have a second hand 2ball Odyssey.)

Any thoughts on either of those?

I can beat the ish out of the ball with the driver. However, at some holes at my course, I may be better served by being 30 yards back and in the fairway as opposed to being in the rough but 30 yards closer. However, I have always had a terrible time hitting fairway woods, especially off the deck.

Are the fairway woods pretty easy to hit? I could handle getting rid of my slingshot hybrid in exchange for a fairway wood I can hit.

As for putters, I am of the opinion that you can pretty much putt with anything as long as your fundamentals are sound and you are confident. My Brother-In-Law uses a NC putter and he loves it.

I've owned Clevelands wedges a 485 model, 56 degree, launcher driver and currently own a hybrid 25 degree with steel DG r shaft and took out my 4 iron.

I would buy a wedge or a hybrids if I were in your golf shoes.

The nice thing is, you don't have to hit a fairway wood off the deck if it's a tee shot. I tee up my 3-Wood tee shots as if it were a mini-driver. And it will leave you a few yards back and, some say, in the fairway. Whether it's a good idea to hold a 3-Wood as a backup driver to hit the fairway is a matter of another discussion.

I can tell you one Cleveland product to AVOID! DO NOT buy the 2007 11' Tour bag.I bought one in May '07.Great looking bag, holds enough gear for a weekend away tournament.First rainfall on an away trip on a Friday it rained for only an hour or so.Thought nothing like a little rain would ruin my trip.WRONG

Saturday morning on the first tee I went into pocket to get a glove to wear.SOAKING WET.Everything in the side pockets were wet.I'm mad just typing this to you.Beware my freind.Enough said

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
