I'm a 27 year old golfer, who played as a kid and then didn't pick up a club for a decade, and I am now horrific and a 30 handicap. Struggling with the mental game as much as anything else and looking to not be awful anymore.

Welcome to our little corner of the internet.  There's lots of good information here, including some excellent instruction.  You might want to post a video of your swing in the My Swing section and see what kind of advice you get.  One thing I've found is that by improving my swing, somehow my mental game seems better too.

Welcome to the site! +1 on what @DaveP043 said. Controlling your emotions, making better decisions, etc. (Mental Game) is important, but you are not going to see consistently better scores by controlling your thoughts.

Thanks for the welcomes all!

I have to believe I'll see some improvement since one bad mistake results in massive blow-ups. I can really cruise along for quite a few holes but one really horrific mistake can quickly spiral out of control over multiple holes for me.
