2016 US Amateur Discussion Thread

Lest we forget sandwiched between the Olympics and a PGA Tour event is the US Amateur, in which a 23 man playoff for 8 spots (3 birdied in, then 4 birdied, then 1 pared) ensued in The Great Lakes State.

So they held the playoff on the North Course, weird.

I know they use both the North & South for stroke play, but I presume they only use the South Course for match play.
Maybe they did the playoff on the North so that matches could begin immediately following the completion of the playoff.

I was able to attend for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon (start of match play). Oakland Hills South is lush and wet. We've had more rain since. There have been some great matches. The Carlson/Meyer match. Carlson was dead behind the green on 14 and made a very difficult chip which ultimately won the hole.

I don't know how many of you saw the match between Luck and Carlson but that was great - white knuckle to the end.  It was definitely another level of pressure - obviously the level of play is not the same throughout the field as a major championship but, pressure-wise, I'd put it up there with anything I've seen.  Looking forward to the final 18 but how great would it have been for Carlson to get through?

I caught a little of this on TV. I wish I had know it was being televised on FOX. It's always fun watching people compete on a course you've played several time and know pretty well.
