I started to pull my driver and 3W pretty badly, to the point that it cost me a handful of balls...that is pretty rare for me. I started to think that it could be the swing plane or club path and I could not fix the issue once it showed up.

So I went to see my local Pro.

The results of most of my problems are set up and a faulty grip. The stupid set up ruins my rounds, what is more annoying, I do not even notice it. .

I was setting up with an open stance, that would typically would cause I slice. But in this case it was causing me to stay behind and force me to throw my hands and arms out.

So the instructor asked me to move bring my left foot further in front..(opposite for right handed golfers)...and boom!..problem solved.

I have to admit, alignment is always being a challenge for me. On the course sometimes it is hard to pick a straight line...I don't know why. Visually some holes and angles don't seem to make sense in my mind and I double cross shots or hit it OB despite the good contact.

I thought about using alignment sticks but, why couldn't I just use a couple of my clubs?

If you are having similar issues check and re check your set up...such an easy fundamental causes a lot of headaches.

People have been doing that for decades. As for alignment rods, Home Depot or Lowes have the orange driveway clearance markers. Perfect, and even have one end pointed so you could stick in the ground for swing plane practice, hip turn indicators, pivot.

@Hategolf You may or may not be aware that @mvmac is a 5SK instructor and has a facility in Mission Valley I believe. Also evolvr lessons.  There are several San Diego and Orange County forum members in the area as well. Last time we tried to have an outing, only able to get 3 of us due to timing and logistics, but one came in from the desert @spider and @Shindig  from up the coast a little. I think we started out with 8 or 9 possibles though.

That's great to know.

I figured there would be resources around and people to play with in the area.

In due time, I am sure we could put something together.

most definitely. I think that @Shindig said he would be working on something after the 1st of the year. All good people.

@Hacker James thanks for the shoutout but I'm no longer teaching.

@Hategolf, I'm happy to recommend instructors in SoCal.

Wouldn't that promote more of an open stance, as a lefty to move your left foot further in front? Just trying to comprehend because this may help me, also. I dealt with hooks and losing balls left a lot during the 2nd half of this year, and I generally have a slightly open stance as a righty. I think one of the big contributors is my grip, I have a very weak grip but every time I try to change it I end up reverting back to it...

You are right, but, my  instructor said I needed to close my stance, because to avoid the slice, my buddy was compensating by reaching out with my arms and therefore pulling and hooking the ball OB. I know it is confusing but apparently when your your set up is open and if your buddy tries to compensate then you could pull and hook.

As soon as I moved my foot forward I hit the woods and driver straight....I was pretty surprised.
