Surprised the committee didn't remove the word ditch - I bet a lot of players thought - I hate that ditch.

I remember stories where they have damned the creek to allow players to hit out of it. I can remember if they did that recently or back then. If it didn't have any water in it, one might call it a ditch.

It was the other way around: they dammed the creek at some point in the '80s to completely fill the channel to its banks. The point was that golfers couldn't play out of it, as can be seen in this photo from 1990. The creek was restored to its natural state at some point in the '90s.
