If I were Rory, I wouldn't play in Dubai.

The reason the Girl Scouts (and other women's only organizations were formed) is because women were specifically excluded from other organizations. They arose in response to discrimination, to give them a space to do the same things that men do. If they hadn't been discriminated against in the first place, then those organizations more than likely wouldn't have popped up.

Not every organization needs to be co-ed. That is just unrealistic. I believe in no way did the Boy Scouts set out to discriminate against women when they founded. To think that all male only or female only organization are inherently discriminatory is just stupid.

Read up on the founding of the Girl Scouts. It wasn't out of protest. It wasn't because of discrimination. It was because the founder of the Girl Scouts met with the founder of the Boy Scouts and thought this would be awesome for the girls in Savannah, GA.

Seriously, not everything is discriminatory. It's absurd to think so. It's absurd to label it as such just because people feel like they need to be social justice warriors.

It should also be noted that the argument of "private courses have the right to set the policies they want" is the same argument that whites-only country clubs made for years and years to exclude black golfers. I'm not calling you or anyone else racist, just pointing out the similarity in the arguments.

Then you are saying that every golf course should be public then? Guess what, a private course could be labelled as being discriminatory against the poor. Where does it end? Honestly, let the private clubs do what they want. If they are willing to accept the social backlash then so be it. A private club has the right to set up the policy they want. The R&A has the right to set up the policy they want on the golf course rotation for the The Open. If a golf club want a male only membership then so be it.

You're mislabeling my argument as for the Girl Scouts, specifically, and I wasn't. Second of all, if the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts were just chummy buddies, then why didn't they just form one ****ing organizations and call it The Scouts? Do you really think it was to be specifically girl-only, or was there either a implicit or explicit understanding that boys and girls were not supposed to be in the same organization together.

I'm not even addressing the "everything has to be co-ed" argument, because that is clearly not what I meant.

Thank you for calling me a social justice warrior! It's a label I wear with pride. Also, thank you for trying to personally insult me, instead of refuting my argument. It makes me look much smarter than I actually am.

A private course cannot be labeled as discriminatory against the poor, because we live in a capitalist economy, and certain goods cost more than others. That's ridiculous, Matt. Come on. Saying that women aren't allowed, simply because they are women, is discriminatory. Saying that black people are allowed,d because they are black, is discriminatory.

And, again, so that you don't get your feathers ruffled– you didn't really address the "Whites Only" argument, which I suspect is because you don't really have an answer, and I also suspect that's why you tried to "gotcha" me with "should every club be public".

Well then, maybe Rory should have boycotted the Masters until a few years ago!

Obviously Rory's choice of words opens him up to the... "But what about...?" questions.  The European Tour taking a stand would be more of a real statement like the R&A did with Muirfield.

But a more compelling question is... Why is the LPGA playing there?

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
