Being T3 on the final day on a course which is hard in normal conditions...well, even if Duval doesn't make a run for the finish today, I feel he's turned a corner and hopefully, this will give him a stack of confidence to carry this on.

Wishing DD all the best for today! Not the start he needed last night although alot of bad luck with the lie at the first hole...

If he can get a birdie in next 2 holes (certainly the par 5 4th hole) then anything is possible!

-3 and tied for the lead! Sure is inspiring it would be nice to see him fight it out and maybe even pull it off. No matter how he finishes today, his confidence will be high. Its hard to pick between Phil and DD they both have great stories coming into the final round.

oh yes - the golfing world just got better.

not because I backed DD at 500/1 after the 1st round of the St. Jude.....but one of the true gentlemen of the modern game is back where he belongs.

His speech after his British Open win was warming - would have loved to see him win the US Open. Would have given all my potential winnings to see it happen!

well done David - welcome back old friend!

DD is the man! Showed confidence and patience this whole week. If he had a little better luck he could have been the champ. I hope this week is a sign of things to come. He needs a couple more good checks to secure his card for next season but his goals will be higher than that.

I look for him to really compete at the British as well, his confidence should be sky high going in. Really impressed with how he battled back after that opening triple. Fantastic that he will be back at Augusta as well!

Duval was unlucky with his lie on the 3rd..should have been a bogey at worst there.

It's a great comeback and he was so close to winning the tournament. He should keep his card for next year on the basis of his current form and I suspect Nike might extend his deal, but vary the terms .

He looked at home competing at he highest level with Mickelson and co and I think he should pass the million dollar mark this year in earnings.

What a comeback, the extent of which was a little unexpected! Role on the British Open!

I was one of those who thought his time had gone. Glad to see it looks like I may be wrong, although I would like to see a few more event results before accepting that this wasn't a one-time thing and the Tour Through Golf Hell has really, finally, ended. He has something a lot of younger players don't when it comes to being able to handle pressure.

I was pulling for him big time. A good Open for him, nonetheless. He held it together well, I thought. I used to be a huge Duval fan, back in the late 90's. Then honestly, I gave up on the guy. I could be wrong. In fact, I hope I am. I hope he keeps it going.

I agree with you, and this tournament may be the final sign that he has recaptured his game from the late 1990's-2002. It has been a long dry spell, and when David kept telling people this year that he was almost there, the so-called pundits said, "Yeah, sure, David, keep on dreaming." No more dream. Just reality now.

And had he gotten it up and down from his lie in the bunker (not the buried one, the one he hit to), he would have still made a bogey. It still took him four shots to get down from the middle of the bunker.

I got sucked into thinking "wow, what a bad break, that cost him three shots" right there" too, but in reality it cost him one shot, and it still took him four to get down from 20 yards. But as you can see in the live blog, I thought he'd won it when he birdied 16. I didn't see that shot coming from Glover and thought he'd (Glover) would have trouble at 17 or something.

Yeah, I agree. He should've been able to get it up and in for bogey out of the bunker. Or at worst a double bogey.

I felt kind of bad for him towards the end because, I too, thought he was going to pull through when he started draining those birdies. But I was surprised to see Glover step up, gotta give him credit. I figured he would blow his lead and fall right back to Duval/Mickelson/Barnes.

One interesting fact about Glover was his 4 month vacation from golf last year at the end of the season. His coach, Dick Harmon, and his wife, Jennifer, agree that he needed to get away from the game because he was extremely frustrated and had lost confidence in himself. Patience is the key to winning the US Open, as we all know. That four month rest period that let him spend time with his family and appreciate life (without golf) made Glover a different person and a much better golfer. If he had not taken that time off, in my opinion, he would never have contended in a US Open, much less won the whole damned thing. Impatience comes from frustration and an overzealousness to win. Patience comes from being content with your life, and a desire to give yourself a chance to win, and not forcing it. Glover taught us all a lesson in patience. Congratulations to him. It was fun to watch him outplay everyone on those last four holes.

    • I really don't think it's going to be anywhere near as accurate as you think it will be. It'd require you to have the same speed at the same distance and angle to the mic every time. Otherwise, if you swung faster, but the maximum speed was another 6" past the microphone and another 2" away from it, it could read as significantly quieter. I think you're ignoring some really basic physics here, my man. And the fact that microphones in phones are highly directional, too. It's not like an open-air mic in a quiet room. I think this idea lacks almost all merit.
    • I played a hole that looked just like that at Full Cry at Keswick Hall, down near Charlottesville.  Its a Pete Dye design, but clearly this hole imitates the work of some older architects.  Golf Club Atlas suggests there's something of Langford and Moreau in the wrap-around bunker. After my Ohio trip, and a recent visit to the Gettysburg area, I'm up to 321 courses, with at least one additional planned for October.  A long way behind @jsgolfer, but still a lot of fun places.
    • I get that if I do a couple swing today at my home course, and later in the week at my house the decibel readings could be totally different. The surrounding environment of both are totally different so the reading are likely to be different. But for one session only, the current one with the same environment from start to finish, if my normal swing produces 90 decibels as a base line, I should be able to test other swings in order to find one that produces more decibels and expect it to be faster than the base line. I look at this the same way as I work with my PRGR. With 7 iron at home, my average ball speed is 115 but at my home course ball speed is around 120 (same ball, same intent. I guess this is because at my home I don't hit that hard down on the ball to prevent injuries). So.. when the other day I tested a new swing and averaged 122 at home I knew that at the course it should be around 127 and It was almost there at 125.   My question is.. if the environment is the same from swing A to swing B, could I compare their speeds by comparing their decibels? Not the exact speeds but witch one is faster?
    • Guess? Make a spreadsheet. 😄
