She's an idiot. She ruins golf on TV. She thinks golf coverage is all about reciting a players resume as he is putting for a win, or babbling about meaningless statistics. She did not even know that a ball is holed if it falls in the cup while you are walking to the green to mark it. She doesn't know anything about golf.

She poses these questions to the other people on mic and they don't even answer her. She is annoying to listen to and The Golf Channel needs to replace her. There are plenty of women with the background in the game and talent to do this work.

I just sent my thoughts on her to TGC. You can do the same here . Stop the suffering now! Give a worthy person the job!

I applaud your pro-active approach to the situation. it's refreshing, to say the least.

edit: can i just say that YOU do not have to be personally offended by a comment for it to be considered insulting. the word itself, "lynch" is not racist because by definition of the word racism applies to people, not things. when she put that word into the context of a group of people that would want to lynch Tiger Woods, there were definitely racial overtones present. after divulging into a quarter long discussion into the history of racism in college, ill tell you that it's difficult to look at comments that others "write-off" because they do not know the history behind them. im not going so far as to say that she is racist, however, as a journalist and someone in the position she is in as a sports commentator, ignorance is never an excuse for a poorly conceived thought.

If by "we" you mean "everyone with common sense" I'd be inclined to agree. In other words, no, I reject the premise that we're making this into something bigger. The word "lynch" carries a racist tone whether you personally feel it does or not. The very history of the word as well as the history of this country make it so.

Eh, well, agree to disagree.

I think Tilghman tries her best, but I just don't think she's that good in the announcers' role. I would be in favor of the Golf Channel replacing her with a more suitable and professional anchor. Hopefully this incident will lead to the beginning of the end for Tilghman in this capacity.

The comment made by Kelly Tilghman was silly, I kind of see the point, but the reference to lynching was simply because he is part black, she could have said shoot him, I feel this board should take a stand, and stop letting this type of prejudice and racism float under the radar because its a good news month, if a male would have said, "i hope she is not on a period" in reference to a woman player getting mad, Kelly would have been glowing red with anger, she a southern racist period, but hey Tiger should be use to it now
LOL...her comment was ill advised, but not racist. It had nothing to do with Tiger being black. White people have been lynched as well and it was common practice. It amazes me how people blow things out of proportion. I also love the first person's rendition of where the word came from trying to portray it as a slave deal. I should make things up as well to make them sound worse.

The only reason this was an issue was Tiger was involved. She could have said the same thing about Phil in 2006 after winning 2 majors and no one would have batted an eye.

As for her being able to be an anchor...that is suspect if she continues to put her foot in her mouth. Probably needs a reprimand and warning, but no expulsion.

Apparently, it's all behind them now...including Tiger.

I'm not sure about that, I just heard an AP story that GC has suspended her for 2 weeks.

Your last post on the subject?

Iacas pretty much stole my thunder, along with the newbie poster some took issue with.

Keep in mind she's born and raised in the Redneck Riviera, i.e, Myrtle Beach, aka the Golf Capital of the World. The Deep South, where "lynch" is a verb...a euphemism of questionable context.

It's a slip up. She screwed up. As much as if she would've uttered something in a homosexual context.

I too have heard the rumors about her. Would she have made a similar comment about...

She's an idiot. She ruins golf on TV. She thinks golf coverage is all about reciting a players resume as he is putting for a win, or babbling about meaningless statistics. Very nicely done golf brethren!

I didn't hear it on air, either, but today it was announced that she got a 2 week suspension for it. I think that is ridiculous. She certainally didn't mean it literally. And, yes, she is responsible for what she says, but it was just an innocent comment taken and spun by Al Sharpton and his followers to make headlines. I am so sick of them grabbing media time over something not news worthy. Why don't they stick to important issues like getting those falsely accused off death row or out of prison.
She screwed up and made a comment that was thoughtless. Was malice intended or was there a racial undertone to her remark? Probably not. Did the remark reveal a lack of sensitivity to the word's history? Absolutely. Will she pay a price? Yes. Will she learn from it? Probably. Tiger says through a spokesman that he forgives her; we probably should, too, and move on.

I'll start by saying that Kelly made a gross error in using the word "lynch", no doubt about that. Did she mean it in a racial way? Who knows besides her, but I doubt it.

The other day I heard a story from a friend of mine that highlights how someone can say something and have absolutely no clue that it could be offensive to someone else. This guy was heading up a large meeting where they had food in the back. This young black guy comes in and sits down in a chair in the front row. My friend asked him if he wanted some food and said "they have some fresh sliced watermelon back there."

Now, with me being from the south, there's no way in hell I would ever say something like that to a black person. I don't think it is racist, however I know that some black people may feel it is. My friend, however, he's from up north, and he honestly had no clue what his words meant to the black guy until someone pulled him aside. He apologized profusely, but he honestly did not know and did not have any negative intentions when he said that.

My guess is Kelly either didn't know, or she just used a poor choice of words in the heat of the moment.

Tiger is happy. She's being punished. I'd say the wrong had been righted. Al Sharpton needs to find another fight. He's a camera hungry loser anyway.

I hated Kelly Tilghman before this comment..

Always found her annoying. Like mentioned before she just brings up past achievements of golfers and stupid stats. "And remember back in 2003 Rich, when Mike Weir had that historical Masters win." (along with Rich Learner)

Her and Rich Learner are undoubtedly, unquailified and unsuited to be associated with the Golf Channel. I dont really know why I have to turn on the golf channel and listen to kelly tilghmans manishly deep voice and Rich Learners overly cheerful and polite ass. Maybe the golf channel wants to lose viewers by continually hiring annoying people. I find it odd when people say she's any kind of attractive.

As for her comment, I take it as a joke. In a way its kind of a complement to Tiger, suggesting thats the only way any player will be able to catch him.So Im surprised its being blown up like it is. I always felt lynch was commonly used to describe a gang or mob beating up and robbing anyone of any kind of race. I guess im not very "racially sensitive". Either way Kelly Tilghmans dumb and annoying.. fire her and Rich Learner while your at it....... please.

first off.....screw al sharpton. he is the reason a lot of blacks are treated differently. i have many black friends and they find his behaviour childish and he only seperates the two races even more.

i believe the punishment is right. lynching is normally used in a racist setting so that cannot be tolerated on network tv. she shouldnt lose her job. although i would like to see her replaced with stina stenberg
