I've got tee times for Sedona Golf Resort and Oakcreek CC, anyone have experience with either course? Also, can anyone comment on whether or not it's possible to squeeze in two rounds in one day in January? The earliest I've been able to book is for 9AM....?

I go to Sedona about 4/5 times a year. You should be able to play comfortably in January... However, some days can get chilly... If that is the case just drive 1.5 hrs south and hit a Scottsdale course - however, coming from NJ you should be in Heaven... Since Sedona is a hot tourist site it is a hit or miss on how busy it is so I don't think you can get two rounds in one day, but maybe???

Sedona Golf Resort is exceptionally beautiful and a must play at least once. Although I rarely play there because it is expensive (+/- $120 each) and the last time we played there the course was in terrible shape with punched greens. They did not tell us the greens were punched and the course was in bad shape. We went in after the round and asked for a rain check and they said NO WAY. I was pretty mad because for that kind of $$ I want a nice course to play. I would not have been as angry if they just told us about the shape of the course...!

Oakcreek CC is a very nice, older, course. It is a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course so there is high risk with high reward. I personally really enjoy playing OCC but it is kinda pricey too (+/- $120 each). There are some holes on the back 9 that are just gorgeous!

About 20 miles southwest of Sedona is a little town called Cottonwood. Right outside Cottonwood is a smaller town called Cornville. There is nice little course there called Verde Santa Fe. http://www.verdesantafe.com/ this is a relatively nice course that is not nearly as expensive as the Sedona courses but it is fun to play. When I go to Sedona I predominantly play there because of the short drive and lesser cost. There is not one bunker on that course If you go there take a quick trip to a ghost town called Jerome…

About 30 miles due south of Sedona is a small town called Rimrock, which is close to Montezuma's Well, a historical site. http://www.desertusa.com/mag98/aug/s...montzwell.html There is a course called Beaver Creek CC. http://www.golflink.com/golf-courses...p?course=32534 It is a small course that is in not too good of condition but still fun to play and pretty cheap.

I think you will have a great time in Sedona. It really is a special place. Take in the beauty of the red rocks and take the time to go to a vortex. (maybe Bell rock) Kind of hokey but have an open mind... Let us know what you think!

Here you go:

I used to have a poster in my room (16 years ago) called "Golf on the Rocks". It was the coolest golf hole I had ever seen in my life. Well, I got married the following year (the poster was put away) and on our second anniversary we go to the Grand Canyon with a stop at Sedona to play golf. We walk in the pro shop at the Sedona Golf Resort and get a great afternoon rate and play the course. We get to number 10, a 210 yard par three, and I look at my wife and I said, this is the hole on the poster. I hit a two iron on the green and make a 20 footer for birdie. Awesome. It was a golf moment that I will never forget.

The course was in great shape and back then had roadrunners, desert hares, and other animals running around. We had the place to ourselves and had a great time. The views are stunning. I think you will enjoy it.
