Hey Ladies and Gentlemen, good evening!

Watching the US Open, had a random thought. I've never seen or least don't remember seeing a player put the golf ball in their pocket. They seem to always give the ball to their caddy.

If that observation is correct...why do they do this? Probably dumb question but couldn't Google the answer.

Thanks!!!

Rickie Fowler puts it in his pocket after every hole, or at least he has every time today.

In the Pro-Ams I have played in, I see the pro getting the ball out of the hole and then hands it to his caddie.  The caddie wipes the ball off with the towel he carries.  Sam Saunders caddie would also reach for our ball and wipe it off also then hand it back.  When I have played courses where we had to use forecaddies, they usually always carry a towel and will ask for you ball when you putt out so they can clean your ball.
