can a Taylormade Fairway 3hl 17* replace a 3w 10.5*?

They're not designed to, but if you launch the ball too low, It think the "HL" stands for "high launch" and you can possibly achieve the same or more distance with a higher launch. Typically that's for players with a slower swing speed.

@luisfernandezgolfer

Yes, HL = high launch.

TaylorMade uses the 3W.HL and the 5W.HL as a marketing ploy.

The 3W.HL at 17* is what most other manufacturers call a 4W. The 5W.HL is what others call a 7W.

I used a 4W + 7W for five years. More golfers with average clubhead speed are carrying 4W + 7W instead of 3W + 5W, or 3W + a couple of hybrids.

Right now, I have FWs set at 15* and 19*. If I can't get better launch with the 15*, I may reset the heads to 16* and 20*, which would pretty much be 4W + 7W.

Also, I have seen long hitters who can hit a 4W more reliably - and sometimes  longer - than a 3W. Jake the legendary Tour Edge rep demonstrated this a couple of years ago at a major demo day. He had willing golfers try both the 3W and 4W of the Exotics line. Even some of the big hitters - guys who carry their driver 270 yards or so - had greater length with the 4W than the 3W. It depends in part on how you come into the ball with your swing.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Is a 10.5 3W even available?

I would call a 10.5 deg 3W  a driver as most 3W are in the 13 - 15 deg range. but then again, I may not be taking into consideration changes in modern technology. Heck, even the Tour Edge Hot Launch2 Senior driver is 13.5.  but...what do I know?  (rhetorical question)
