Having an issue thinning shots with shorter irons. 

Obviously these irons are shorter. Any thoughts as to reason for thinning shots?

I'm trying to keep my knees flexed and maintain spine angle. 

Any advice greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to the site.

 

Second, knees plural flexed?  You don't want your right knee maintaining its flex in the swing, no matter which club you're hitting (maybe putter).

If you have access to a camera, consider posting a "My swing" thread -- show us you hitting a short iron and we'll see if we can help you out.

Yep. The right leg should naturally straighten during the backswing. Look at pretty much any professional at the top of the back swing and a right leg with minimal flex is exactly what you'll see. Here's a good thread from the Swing Thoughts forum about this:

Wow that really is different from so much advice out there. 

I'll sure give this a try but I'm concerned this will make my problem worse with short irons and giving me the tendency to straighten my left knee also. 


Both fat and thin shots tend to be the result of the same flaw, not getting your weight forward enough.

I'm not a golf instructor nor a particularly good player but attempting too many changes at once and expecting them all to stick is not the right way, in my opinion at least, to begin making big changes in your swing.

You'll see the phrase "priority piece" used pretty often here and I think ANY golfer serious about improving would likely be able to answer the question of "what's your priority piece?" A priority piece is simply the most glaring/most important part of your swing that needs remedied. I think it's really good to find yours so that that issue can be addressed and focused on until that pattern is ingrained. Then you reassess and find your new priority piece and the cycle begins again.
